Recent reviews for this item: DENELLA, May 17, 2013 bought this to hold my phone on my motorcycle Mark, May 7, 2013 I was looking for a phone mount that could hold the phone securely with or without a case. This is perfect. Grips tightly, but it's very easy to attach and remove the phone.
The only (small) downside is that you have to be a little careful where you place the phone each time, to be sure the arm isn't resting against the volume up or down buttons on the phone. Once you're aware of that issue, it's easy to avoid. I wanted to use my existing case but had doubts that there would be enough spring force to hold the phone while I went over bumps in road. Being that I was going to install this on a motorcycle, it was a big concern for me. When the package arrived (it arrived quick BTW) I test fitted the phone in the clamp and was surprised that I was not able to slide the phone once clamped. The rubber grips are quite soft and conform well to phone's case. I am using this with a Otter Box Commuter case and I am very pleased with the grip strength. I will say though that the rubber knobs do grip a rubber contact surface on the phone's case.
