I like the Garmin Nuvi 855, the speaker garmin as installed in this gps , is a little muffled and not loud enough even at 100 percent volume adjustment, Garmin made a 250 gps which they no longer make, the speaker in this gps was a lot better, over all i would rate the 850,gps 75 percent, sometimes when you speak for certain direction the gps will give you the wrong direction, but the worst complaint is the speaker

Garmin 855-download the latest Garmin software update. will solve problem of screen lockup or rebooting. Dont forget when you buy it you have 60 days to register then download the latest maps update for 2010. when you buy the 855 also go and find a store that sells the garmin mini microphone it greatly helps when you do your voice prompts.Get the GTM 20 (go with lifetime) vs the GTM 50. MSN direct is cancelling their service in 2012 ( it wasnt worth the money...meant more for US anyways) this unit is capable to download Point of interests P.O.I. /GPSPassions have free speed traps, speed limits and radar locations and speed cameras that you can download into this unit. you can also download the Garmin TOPO maps into this unit as well and use it for Hiking/Camping. The option of the lane distinction is fantastic. It works and it has helped me remain true to where I have to go without rerouting me. it is helpful when there are 6 lanes and you must go in the middle two lanes. It at times even pops up with cartoon billboard signs displaying where to turn off of the highway. Voice prompts are great they say turn right on a road , not turn right 50Metres. the built in FM transmitter is great when you use the microsd card slot to download a book or music and play it through the radio. then all voice prompts go through the radio as well. If you dont keep the radio volume at a resonable level of sound otherwise the unit will have a hard time understanding you. The auxillary button is fantastic. wrap it around the bottom of your steering wheel and you are set fo communicate with your unit. This is the only one of two units that were made by Garmin that have this feature. Considering in Ontario the 155dollar fine that is now in effect when people are playing with their GPS units. This is a fantastic option to have. This does not have bluetooth but based on having other Garmin unit that I tried prior to purchasing this unit I will say the bluetooth option from Garmin is not worth the money. Sounds hollow and distant when people receive your call. The screen is bright enough and can see without problems. satellite find is good as well. I have yet to use last postion option for finding my car in a parking lot but you never know there is always a first.

Garmin manufacture very nice products. I own five of them and they work well, but they all lack one thing and the Garmin 855 is no exception. It is fair game when one sets out on a journey to follow a course, but every sailor or pilot makes minute changes to their course as they make final approach to their destination. The Garmin 855 sticks to it's course like a robot and does not considers small streets as it make final approach as humans would. It will not switch from faster to shorter etc. as it homes in on target. The one I have has a start up issue. Many times when I turn it on, the screen does not display anything, so I have to remove the batteries and rebooth it, but I does work but it's a drag.

My 3rd Garmin and I love it. All I could want. Much faster start and much more detail. I can go anywhere. Hands free is the only way to go.
