| Purchased to replace an old one that last 5 years. Works
well the first 3 years. Should have replaced the strap
earlier. Must take care of the o-ring that seals the cover
of the battery case. If not, sweat gets in and it start to
not working properly. With good care, no issue. Worked
out-of-the box with an old EDGE-305. | |

| I bought this monitor for my Dakota 20. Pairing was a breeze : put it on
your chest, turn the Garmin Dakota on (works with other GPS too), go to
Setup / Fitness / Heart Rate Monitor / Search for new. Voilą, it's paired
!
The heart rate information can be displayed on the map screen, simply
touch one of the current info box (like speed, or distance) and change to
Heart Rate.
The information is also recorded along with track information. Quite
helpful if you want to follow your progress on a given trail, or to
compare how hard a trail was against others.
I am using RubiTrack for Mac to collect my exercise data and, however, if
I forget to erase the current track before I go, Rubitrack will sometimes
not display the heart information inside the tracks file.
All is not lost! If this happens, you simply need to visit Garmin Connect
to download the track from your GPS, and then export that same track to a
GPX file on your Mac. Garmin Connect seems to correct the data inside the
file and you can import this file into Rubitrack, this time, all the heart
information will be there.
I was afraid I would feel the strap on my chest all the time, but that's
not the case. Within 30 seconds of wearing it, you don't feel it anymore.
I mostly do biking, so maybe if I was running, that would be different,
but I don't think so. It's pretty solid fitting to my chest. | |

| I am now using this heart rate monitor with my Dakota 20
Garmin Handheld GPS Unit. Now that I have got it working,
I really like it. However, the absence of any instructions
as to how to wear it, and how to trouble shoot it when it
failed to work is a major problem in my opinion. There was
also little information as to whether it was compatable
with the Dakota 20 in any of the literature or website
information.
I spent quite a few hours surfing the internet to figure
out where the best place to position it was. I did find
some helpful advice, (but not from the Garmin web site.) I
did call the service number at gpscity and they referred me
to the Garmin help number. The operator told me I needed
to upgrade the software on my Dakota 20. After I
successfully did that I was able to get the heart monitor
to register on the GPS. It took some experimenting to find
a reliable position on my chest to get a reliable reading,
I'm still not sure I have optimum position, but it only
cuts our occationally, now. Once I work up a good sweat,
It seems to work 99% of the time.
Overall, I now think it will be quite reliable for my
purposes but a few instructions would have saved me a lot
of grief. | |
