Overview

With its thin and sleek body, the TomTom GO 740 has a very easy-to-use design with a 4.3" wide-screen. The GO 740 includes TomTom's MapShare technology, which essentially allows the user to change street names, street directions, and points of interest. The user can also download other users' verified map changes to their unit. Featuring TomTom's innovative speech recognition technology as well, you the GO 740 allows you to speed up data entry by speaking your destination's city and address instead of typing it in.

The TomTom GO 740 would not be what it is without its 4.3" wide-screen, its sharp 480 x 272 resolution,a high sensitivity GPS receiver, and last but not least the addition of Bluetooth connectivity for use with a Bluetooth enabled cell phone. An optional purchase is an MCX external antenna to fit right in with the MCX connection on the GO 740.

TomTom Live

When you are connected with the TomTom 740 Live you can do many interesting tasks. The Live connection allows you to receive real time updates on fuel prices and traffic. Using the Live connection the unit can also do Google Local searches. This gives you access to the most up to date Point of Interest data available.

TomTom's Map Share

Included with the TomTom GO 740 is maps from TeleAtlas that include all of the United States and Canada with millions of points of interest in both countries. Lets face it - roads change quite often. You now have the ability to change the pre-loaded maps. With this new technology you are now able to mark unaccessible or accessible streets, change street names, and change the direction of a One Way street. You can share your changes that you've made on the TomTom GO 740, or you can download other user changes with the TomTom HOME software.

Routing Information

After entering an address or selecting a point of interest that you are traveling to, the TomTom GO 740 with automatically route you there. Depending on your route option selected, the TomTom GO will route using the quickest or shortest route, and you may also select to avoid toll roads or by required arrival time. As you are proceeding along your route, the unit will speak to you using text-to-speech guidance with its turn-by-turn directions. With text to speech, the unit will speak the street names. For example the TomTom GO 740 will say "Turn right on Main Street" instead of "Turn right in 500 feet".

We all need a little help sometimes

In case of emergency, the TomTom GO 740 comes with a menu entitled "Help me!" for easy access to emergency services. With a simple touch, the TomTom GO 740 will provide details and guide you directly to various emergency services including police, fire stations, and hospitals. If a Bluetooth phone is connected at the time, you may call the emergency service with a simple touch as well.
