I bought this as a multi-purpose mount for my wife's Jeep. It works great and holds all of our varying devices securely. My only beef is that once the device is in the grip, the grip arms will rotate small amounts. Wider devices seem to move more. now, this only happens on rough roads, but we seem to have a lot of those in Edmonton!

GRIPPY X-GRIP
Pros: simple design, easy to insert phone Cons: snap link tight and difficult to rotate
Works well with a Samsung Galaxy SII. The phone must be adjusted so the grip does not hit the buttons, but it works fine once set up. Inserting and removing the phone is easy. Only difficulty was inserting a snap link ball RAP-SB-238U in the back. Fitting was so tight, I thought I had the wrong part and I might break it. Especially since gpscity says the Snap Link ball is 0.5 inches and it's actually 0.75. Then I read online about a trick to put the ball in the freezer. After that, I snapped it in and it will probably never come out. No chance of swapping out snap link parts as the fit is tight. I had hoped to swap out different mount arms with snap link, but that is not possible (at least with the diamond plate snap link ball). On the other hand, the X-Grip ball joint will not move due to vibration. If you want to change the angle or rotate, you need to use two hands to grab hold of it. This makes it non-trivial to pivot the phone to landscape. If they could work out a way to have a 90 degree pivot integrated into the X-Grip unit, that would be great. Otherwise, the only movement is in the X-Grip arms, which can rotate slightly due to the spring action of the arms.

SECOND X-GRIP
Pros: holds firm Cons: can push volume buttons if not lined right
I ordered a second X-grip for my bike after the first worked so well holding my iPhone4 with Survivor case in my truck. I have yet to take it on a serious trail, but it's been great with the bumps I've subjected it to so far!

RECEIVED 3 BROKEN UNITS IN A ROW
Pros: holds any smartphone well. Cons: design flaw - all 3 arrived broken.
Although the concept of the X-Grip is very cool, there's an obvious design flaw. The four screws that hold the round "faceplate" onto the main body mate into four internal posts. The walls of these posts are too thin, and the material used is too brittle. On all three units I received, the posts had cracked apart, and the cracked pieces were rattling around inside the body, leaving the faceplate loosely attached to the body. Additionally, on one of the units, the faceplate had also cracked in two places -- also due to the brittle material.
GPS City's fantastic customer service took care of me, and after going zero for three, we decided it would be best to issue me a refund instead of trying a fourth unit. I've been a long-time customer of GPS City, and with service like this, I remain a happy customer!
