DOESN'T QUITE DO WHAT I WANTED
I needed a mount to do exactly what this one does except that when octagonal base clips in it spins freely. I was told by RAM that once it clips in it would be in a fixed position and not spin. Maybe I wasn't clear on the phone with them, but I made a slight modification to make it work. That issue aside, the product is very well made and it securely holds my iPhone 4 mounted in my car. The clip is plenty strong and I see zero chance of it coming unhooked unintentionally no matter the mount angle or activity. It is a good solution for a low profile mount parallel to the mounting surface.
