The SPoT unit is wonderful - gives you and your loved ones a lot of peace of mind if you're off the beaten path. Even more useful than a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon), in my opinion.
If you're on a motorcycle, you need some way of mounting it and the RAM mount is one of the best! But if you're in an accident, the last thing you want is to have the SPoT part company with you so this suggestion will prevent that.
I read of an unlucky biker whose SPoT flew out of the RAM mount when he had an accident and it ended up 50' further down the road. He was able to retrieve it and he/it were ok, so it was not the end of the world for him but this might be a good idea if you do use the RAM mount.
Put a nylon tie through the clip location on the mount and wrap it around the RAM mount and SPoT. If you do this, it will also prevent those with sticky fingers from walking away with the unit.
I also use a tether strap from the SPoT to a mirror stalk in case the mount comes loose.
