USUAL RAM HIGH QUALITY PARTS

I love the RAM because you can mix and match parts for an infinite number of possible configurations. I had to modify the gps powered mount that came with my motorcycle gps, was simple to buy the amp plate with one inch ball, this part and a handlebar mount to fit my harley. I couldn't decide if the arm should be short like this one or if the longer one I already had was better, so I got this one to have both and to change if needed. I've got several RAM mounts that have been in use for years and still work as well as the day I bought then. The springs in these arms are top notch and the knobs to tighten the adjustments always works fine and they STAY WHERE YOU SET THEM these don't drift even with a fairly heavy gps (the waterproof ones are heavier than the non water resist units). I'm very happy with every RAM piece I've ever bought.

GREAT MOTORCYCLE PIECE

Cons: none
Provides infinite adjustability and is just the right size for motorcycle use. I think plastic is the best choice for the bike as it can handle the elements and frequent on/off handling without any paint chipping.

NOT WELL ENGINEERED
This item and the longer version are under engineered (they are easily over tightened and when that happens they break), while the receiver plate for the Nuvi GPS is over-engineered. The designer would have done a better job putting more plastic in the Arm and less in the receiver plate. It would have been better to use the Garmin design for the receiver plate and put more material in the Arms.

HOLDS WELL

I bought this and the longer arm for mounting GPS' on my boat / kayak/ car / etc. I find I most often use this arm as the longer arm tends to vibrate more & "droop" when there is a lot of motion (like the boat going through Ocean swells).

GOOD WAY TO SAVE

Cons: does not look as good, has a rougher finish
Unless you need the metal one specifically, this plastic one is strong and does the same job. I will buy these from now on instead of the metal ones.

SMALL PROBLEM
Pros: easy to use and adjust
Cons: bolt to long
I use a number of RAM mounts parts. The problem with this part is the bolt is 1/4" too long to be able to close tightly. went to hardware store and found the correct one. I use this on my HD and need it to get as tight as possible. Now it does

GOOD
Use this with U-Bolt motorcycle mount to mount my Garmin Nuvi 500 on my Kawasaki KLR 650. Not related to this product you'll need a sun shade to put on the Garmin Nuvi's. Do an internet search on "Nuvi Sun Shade" and look around on the hits.

VERY HAPPY WITH THIS DEVICE.
Pros: very beefy construction & locks down tight.
Cons: none i have had as of yet.
I was not sure about using this plastic device instead of the one made out of Aluminium. I have since discovered that this device holds and locks down extreamly good. I use it on my motorcycle and have had no problems with the vibrations. This device is light weight and is constructed very well. I'm not sure I could break this device if I tried.
Recommend? YES

Perfect size for the R1150RT w/ riser bars, and the small 1.75 long arm double socket allows you to swivel in many different ways so you can still see the dash. Use with the double ball 1.75 and you will have many adjustments.
