RAM-HOL-GA12U CRADLE REVIEW

Pros: does not obscure view or buttons.
Cons: tricky to remove gps until you get the feel for it

This was a replacement cradle. The first one broke after about 3 or 4 years of light use. The failure was during a 40F degree day when removing the GPS and the end of the day, which requires applying some tension to the shaft. Possibly, the low temp made it more brittle.

OKAY EXCEPT FOR REMOVAL

Pros: holds gps securely
Cons: difficult to remove gps

Use it on my boat. Holds GPS securely. Insertion is easy. Removal is a little difficult. You have to flatten the hump in the back so the round part can unclip. This probably does not make sense until you try it. Mine lasted for about two years before the plastic snapped off at the hump. Easy enough to replace just this piece.

SOLID GPS MOUNT

Pros: sturdy construction

Great mount, holds the GPS snugly in place. I have it mounted to my quad and haven't had any issues with it. I love these RAM mounts because they are well made.

GREAT FOR LIGHT USE

Works great, holds GPS unit very securely but... I use mine mostly for Geocaching which means the GPS unit is in and out of the cradle alot. On average they've lasted three to four months prior to cracking at the neck. (I'll stress that I do use these cradles alot. I have mount bases on my bike, motorcycle, boat, and truck.)

LOOKS AND FEELS VERY FLIMSY

Pros: seems to work.
Cons: looks flimsy

I did order this to mount my GPSMap 60CSx on my motorcycle but never used it. It just feels way too fragile and flimsy. I replaced this part of my setup with a metal holder from Touratech that is easier to use (easier to get the GPS in and out), has an attachment point for the power cable, looks and feels (and most likely is) much more rugged. But it also costs about 10 times more ... was worth it for me. I only tested the item here in the garage, so I'm not speaking from experience, but from look and feel.

GARMIN 60CSX MOUNT

Pros: rugged
Cons: hard to get your gps out of the holder.

This mount is very durable and the GPS goes on with a snap. Getting you GPS out is another story. It requires a lot of pulling to snap it out. This was purchased as a replacement for one that broke at the neck trying to get my GPS out. As long as you leave the GPS in you won't have any problem. I ride a motorcycle and this unit is attached to my handlebar. When geocaching on the bike it goes on and off quite often and subsequently broke after a year.

NOT THE BEST DESIGN, BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO?

RAM Mounts are the only way to go...I've used them for all my handhelds and have the full floor mounted laptop tray. Top quality.... Except....I think the RAM Mount engineers could have figured out a better way to mount the Garmin 60 series. On the current mount, the part that holds onto the "button" on the back of the unit is the weak point of the whole thong. Too much tension. They always end up snapping off at this spot. I'm on my 4th 60 series mount now.

As for the rest of the RAM Mount gear...100% satisfied!

OUTSTANDING

Pros: solidly holds the gps, light weight
Cons: none

My Garmin 60csx is really solidly mounted in this cradle. I went over some bumps and washboards on my dual-sport motorcyclesevere enough that my tank bag flew off, but the Garmin was rock solid in the cradle. I have no doubt there will be years of solid use received from this product. The design is great and will outlast the GPS, I think.

Another reviewer said the cradle loosened over time. I'll wait and see, but it is currently amazing in its design and function. I've owned other RAM products, including three other GPS cradles, and this is the most solid. I have no worries on two-track roads in rough condition.

GOOD GPS MOUNT

Pros: price
Cons: limited useful life, scuffs the gps unit.

This mount works well on my bicycle. But, over time the plastic loses its resiliency, and the gps unit no longer fits tightly. As a result, riding over a bump can cause the unit to fly out of the mount (always have the lanyard attached to something on the bike). But, the price is low enough that I simply replace the mount before it gets too loose. To reduce rattle on rough roads, I add several pieces of foam inside the mount.

GOOD, TIGHT HOLD

Pros: good, tight fit.

I had read various reports about the RAM holder for the 60csx not holding the GPS tight. So besides the cradle, I bought a tether for it, as extra insurance and put a rubber band around the top of the unit during my riding. THEN, I went on a 350 mile AMA dual-sport ride through Death Valley. I am pleased to report that despite running over football sized rocks, taking 3 sand wash "naps", and ALOT of rocky road vibration, the GPS stayed in the RAM mount. Great mount for the money and very reliable too!

BULLETPROOF AND SECURE CORE TENNENTS OF RAM MOUNT

Pros: very very secure mount
Cons: removal is almost always two handed.

RAM makes the best and most secure mounts for everything - and this RAM mount for the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX is no exception. Heh - when I upgraded my GPS I got almost the same price for my RAM Etrex Vista mounts as I paid for them.

Some people whine about this requiring the button on the back. I use mine in the car - with RAM mount or on my bick - with RAM mount - or on my belt - with clip requiring button.

This mount is a two handed mount for removal, but so was my Vista mount, and your GPS will NOT come out even agressively mountain biking

AS ALWAYS, RAM CRADLE FOR 60CXX GPSES IS EXCELLENT

Pros: great product design. sturdy, function as intended
Cons: none

This is my third RAM mount cradle. Bought my first one for my Garmin eMap, along with a diamond base ball mount and the articulated arm. Replaced the eMap with a Garmin GPS V. Purchased just the crade for the GPS V and everything else worked as it. Now I've replaced the GPS V with a Garmin 60CSx, and once again only had to replace the cradle. What a great product design! And, of course, the 60CSx cradle fits the device perfectly, and holds the GPS receiver securtely for both car and motorcycle uses.

I'm a big RAM fan. Well designed and manufactured products.

OFFROAD MOTORCYCLE - JUST OK

Pros: simple and cheap.
Cons: fragile - one good smack and it's broken.

The mount needs rubber bands to keep the GPS from being bounced out on rough trails. Other than that, it fits well and doesn't obstruct buttons or the screen.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Great Customer Service! I had ordered the holder and some other items for my Garmin 60 series, but GPSCity mistakingly sent a holder for a Garmin Rino. Except for model number, it looked almost the same, but would not fit the 60.

I called GPSCity and they ship out the replacement faster than anything. I got the correct holder before my trip and am glad I purchased again from GPSCity.

Thanks Guys!

GPSMAP 60 RAM MOUNT - NICE

Pros: small and light weight, very easy to mount.
Cons: wish powerlet plug was included.

This was my third GPS RAM Mount, the first 2 where for Quest and Nuvi 660. This one is a very simple design that features a secure top snap that keeps the bottom of the GPS unit in place. Just remember to tighten the belt clip button on the GPS from time to time. Works great on both my cruiser and dual-sport bikes.

RAM MOUNT FOR 60CSX

This mount lasted one ride. First time out and on the first good bump, the GPS came out of the cradle, snapped the arm and sent the GPS flying. Also, it wore the rubber down on the base of the GPS and the coating on the back. Imagine what your GPS would look like after multiple trips. Come on Ram you can make a better mount for this. My mount for my Vista worked great. Used on a handle bar mount.

GARMIN 60 SERIES CRADLE

The cradle holds the unit very well, it does not shift or move when in the cradle. The neck of the cradle tends to wear out and break after a very short time. The bottom of the cradle digs into the GPS and rips the rubber on the GPS when removing the unit. Even with these shortcomings, it still seems to be the best choice for a mount at the moment.AC.
