MY NEW ZUMO 665
Pros: 3d, touch only, size & capabilities Cons: low volume without headphones, not seen in sun.
Purchase, Delivery & Package swiftly received. Set up was easy. Loaded it with XM ann. Package. Did not buy Weather @ $90 or Travel Advisory @ $50. Disapointed in volume and no visability on the bike in the Sun. Had to purchase a "Hoodie" via e-bay as Garmin did'nt think this out? Wonder who the biker advisor was? Have Bluetoothed my 4S I-Phone with Wireless Bluetooth (Uclear)Helmet Accessory.

ESTIMATE 3 WEEKS TO GET A REPLACEMENT
Pros: fantastic unit Cons: unreliable and must wait weeks for a replacement
I bought a 665 for my trip from ME back to AZ.
The factory refurbished 665 looked as if it had never been used.
Unfortunately, after installing it, after a few days it would randomly speed up the voice prompts--sounded like it was in fast forward.
I called garmin tech support which had me download updated software to fix this problem. The unit worked for a few days and then did the same thing.
During my next call with tech support they had me do a hard rest that wiped out everything I had programmed into it, erase all of the voices, download the same software I had a few days before and then download just the English voices.
The unit work fine for a few days.
I was headed down an interstate head back home to AZ when the voice prompt went into fast forward. I rest the unit while going down the interstate and it was normal. While listening to the MP3 player I heard a song I don't remember hearing before. It was rather "space" like, not one of the blues songs I had entered? After around 10 minutes of this strange recording I went into the play list to skip this song. I discovered it was one of my favorites!!
I shut the 665 off and then turned it on, there wasn't any audio out?!!
I played around with the volume controls and the audio came back.
Running down the interstate the voice prompts speed up again.
I was only 90 miles from where I have been staying in Maine, so I went back.
I called garmin and was informed it would take them two weeks after they received my unit to replace it.
When i explained I bought it for my trip and that i turned around because it wasn't working properly they queried if the GPS part was working which it is.
So, I can either send it to them now and have the replacement sent to AZ or use the unit and send it to them when I'm back home in AZ!?
I really do not want to wait until the first week of Dec to leave Maine headed back home!! For some reason, I do not want to be here when it starts snowing again.

REVIEW OF GARMIN 665
Pros: waterproof, nice display, easy to use with gloves Cons: price!, bluetooth is still very buggy
I'm an avid motorcycle rider. This seemed like the perfect addition to my bikes. It was really expensive and I struggle to see the worth of the additional price compared to the nuvi, but I have used it in the rain without any problems. XM radio is nice but the sound quality is poor compared to MP3's that you can put on the expanded memory cards. I frequently get messages from XM weather that "roads nearby maybe snowy" even though its 80+ degrees out. Traffic alerts seem to be pretty accurate, although not perfect either.
I took the Zumo on a 3500+ mile 10 day trip from Utah, up through Canada, and then down the west coast with 2 other friends last month. We all had Sena SMH10 bluetooth headsets. These headsets intercom between each other and I also had mine connected to the Zumo. The first day was very frustrating to talk to my friends until I figured out how everything works. It can take 10-15 seconds once I push the headset intercom button to disconnect from the zumo and connect to one of the other headsets. If I have music playing, it will disconnect from the intercom after about 5 seconds and go back to the music (in mono mode). I have to stop the music and then the intercom will reconnect (10 seconds again) and I can have a conversation until the Zumo has an instruction to say or I touch the Zumo and it has to play a keystroke beep. Frustrating indeed. My friends only had their phones paired to their headsets and they had no problems talking.
I've read others reviews about locking up and rebooting and I will say that has only happened to me once. I was going a different direction and Lisa(The UK voice) was telling me she was recalculating and finally the Zumo just rebooted. I figured Lisa (like any other woman) was just getting mad at me for not listening to her and turned herself off. The Zumo came back up and I had no further problems with that. Garmin must have mostly fixed the bugs for this finally.
Great maps, nice display, usable with gloves on. Feels like a sturdy well built device and mounts well to the bike. I purchased a Techmount for my bikes and have a Zumo mount for both of them. I also use the suction cup mount for my car. Bluetooth works well if you're not using intercoms. You can hear music from the extended memory card or XM (if you pay for it). Caller ID from your phone (if paired) will show up on the Zumo display with access to your phone book. Still a little buggy on making calls though. Sometimes it works really well and sometimes I've been told I'm talking through a Kazoo.
Sena is releasing a firmware update for the SMH10's sometime this month supposedly to fix some of these issues. I'm hopeful that it will make a difference. Only time will tell. I don't think this is completely a Sena issue though.
It is a solid unit and I've used it for about 4600 miles so far. Not having to worry about rain is good and using it with gloves works well too. Maps are clear and lane assist and the speed limit feature are surprisingly accurate. I do like the tank fuel indicator too.
If they could get the bluetooth working better I would completely love this thing. I'm still hoping.

QUALITY CONTROL?????
Pros: ???????????? Cons: less dependable than zumo 550
I have been disapppointed with the lack of quality control with the Zumo 665. I had a problem with the unit and a updated download appeared to fix it, I thought, but the unit shuts down for whatever reason when you really need it. Too bad a biker could not assist in designing a biker gps as the Zumo would be a lot easier to use.

GREAT PRODUCT
Pros: turning graphics on highways. Cons: not enough volume.
I recently purchased a new Zumo 665. It replaced my old Zumo 550 GPS. The 665 is wider, has better graphics and indicators when approaching a turn. On a highway/freeway when approaching many differant lanes, it is very easy to navigate with the dual screen and listening to the voice. Instead of saying turn right, when multiple options are available on the road, the voice indicates that a veare to the right is all that is needed to continue, instead of looking for a 90 degree turn. The purple travel line is much easier to follow when on the bike. The only problem that I have found is, the volume is much lower than the Zumo 550. With the built in satelite receiver, anything over 80km/50mph is impossible to hear. I have to use ear buds and still the volume is not loud enough. With the 550, I had to turn the volume down, when using the ear buds. Other than the volume issue, this is a very good product. A little pricy, but well worth the investment for long rides on the bike.

NOT BAD
Pros: don't know yet Cons: a few as listed
Sure wish Lowrance hadn't gotten out of motorcycles. I find as a new to Garmin user it is not very user friendly The manual does not give enough information as to where screens are. With the 1way i could scroll the map touch a spot and press the little info button and a screen popped up with directions and a go button. The Garmin needs too much information when plotting a course. Tried to use the mapsource and plug the route from it to my gps and while the computer says it went the gps does not have it. will see how my trip down south works

ZUMO 665 FOR HARLEY DAVIDSON
Pros: great idea? Cons: cost, doesn't work properly, screen dim
Had this installed over the winter. When I started to promo with XM, radio, weather and traffic, the sound cuts in and out. Sometimes out completely, sometimesit sounds like some noise is bleeding through. When I touch the volume, the LED screen shows "phone Volume", not regular volume. I don't have my bluetooth hooked up yet. The HD said they're belief is that the problem is in the wiring harness, connecting the unit to the fairing radio. They say they are working on it... But 9 days in the shop, resulted in no fix (yet). Today, I programmed my first destination, testing it on well known routes. It would have taken me way off the beaten path, if I followed the unit's instructions. Dissatisfied..

GARMIN 665
Pros: waterproof Cons: battery, xm radio
I had used a 550 for several years with no problem. I had HD install the 665 on my 2011 Limited. The XM radio worked for a week or two then crased. I can hear it but cannot turn up the sound enough to be able to hear it. I plugged in a ear phone to the unit, and can hear the XM. The dealer said its a softwear problem that HD and Garmin are working on. The battery does not seem to have much of a charge, even when the bike is running. Wish I had not sold my 550 to my brother.

GREAT DEVICE - CANADIANS NEED TO READ FINE PRINT
Pros: fast processing, good xm features, xm nav weather Cons: non-standard ball size for car mount less flexible
The GPS is great. Very quick and responsive. The XM features are well integrated and XM weather is a welcomed feature for any long-distance riders.
Canadians need to read the fine print though. While it is clear that XM Nav Weather only contains forecasts and conditions for the USA (which is fine if you do most of your long-distance riding south), what is not well indicated is that you cannot purchase XM Nav Weather with a Canada-based subscription.
The workaround is to ask a favour of an american friend or family member who will allow you to use their US-based credit card.

NOT WORKING PROPERLY
Pros: nice and easy to use. Cons: poor quality control.should be tested before sell
The GPS has very good features and is fairly easy to use, but the dam thing keeps locking up on me. The screen freezes. Rode down to Baker City Ore this past week and every 15 to 30 minutes it would lock up. I would have to power it off and then turn it on again and reprogram settings. Not a good thing to do when you are riding. Had to send it back today.

NOW IS A $1000 DOOR STOP
Pros: gps/mp3/satalite radio all in one unit Cons: not reliable
I have the road teck version which has the Harley Davidson downloads. The unit would turn itself off when exposed to temperatures less than 10C or just not turn on. It would lock up when cycling through the MP3 files. Never got the chance to test out the satalite radio. After a few weeks of trouble shooting with Garmin, you must be assertive with them, the GPS is back at Garmin for repairs/upgrades. Hopefully all is well or I spent a lot of money for this unit and all the auxillaries to support it for not.

Pros: feature rich, easy to read and use Cons: cost
So far I'm very impressed with the 665. The mount is much cleaner than my old 450 and the features such as lane assist are excellent. It finds satellites quickly and the autozoom works very well. I thought I'd miss the hard buttons but the presented information is customizable and I don't need to change screens to see what's important to me.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
Cons: xm antenna, slow screen re-draw
My wife had high expectations for the Zumo 665. She liked the idea of a waterproof XM capable unit. Unfortunately, in practice, the 665 falls way short. I have experienced nothing but frustration trying to get the unit to work with the Gxm-40 antenna. The Zumo constantly says "Check XM antenna" even though it is connected. I am not a GPS "Newbie". I have owned Garmin GPS's for probably close to 15 years starting with an old GPS III which still works fine, by the way... This unit does not work the way it should and waiting on hold for Garmin in not fun. So far, they have replaced the motorcycle mount to no effect. It still has the same antenna error. The GPS on my bike now is a Garmin GPSMAP 478 with a GXM-30 antenna. I have had this setup for at least two years now and never had a hiccup. Save yourself a bunch of aggravation and don't get the Zumo 665 and expect the XM to work. Buy the 660 if you must, and listen to the radio...

EVEN BETTER THAN I HAD HOPED
Pros: weather, and all around versatility. Cons: i wish it would show more detail at a farther zoom
This GPS is very intuitive, easy to learn and to understand. The capability of having the weather map right on the GPS is a huge advantage regarding convenience as well as safety. I now know ahead of time if I need to stop to put my rain gear on, detour around a storm, pull over and wait it out, or just ride right through it. I used to get drenched first, and then put on the rain gear, at which time the rain would be ending. Not any more. Now I can see from a birds-eye view what the weather is doing, where it's going and where it's been. Besides the weather, the 650 is still an awesome GPS packed with the most useful features available. It originally had a problem shutting down on it's own. I had to reboot it by removing and replacing the battery. They fixed that issue with a free update. Works great now. Thanks Garmin for a great GPS. Thank you also gpscity for the excellent service and prices. The only better "GPS" is God's Perfect Son. He can save you from the "highway to hell" and direct you in the road to righteousness. The journey is awesome with Him in your life. There is no one else like Him!!

UNRELIABLE MOTORCYCLE GPS
Pros: easy to use & see, loved the pics for lane use. Cons: unreliable information and operation.
Bought the zumo 665 specifically for my trip to New York, NY. The GPS completely shut down four times, and stayed down for up to two days straight each time before it would turn on again. It was not reliable leading us to fuel or motel locations either. Upon reaching it's destination, the local people replied that there was never a fuel station/motel at that location. I was disappointed that the MC GPS did not have specific listings for MC shops, it also would have been helpful to have a highway heading for 'Scenic Byways', along with 'Fastest and Shortest' directions.

Went from BMW Zumo 550 to 665 and well pleased. I especially like the large screen, but miss the shortcut buttons to get from tools, etc. back to map. The XM Weather Radar is fantastic. Now I can see if I amd riding into it or out of it and which way to go. I haven't done a route, so don't know if it overlays the weather on my route, but don't think so.

ZUMO 665 - A DUD FOR NOW
Pros: nice big screen, weather and traffic. Cons: little contrast where/when it's needed the most.
I wouldn't recommend spending this kind of money on the 665 just yet. Instead, wait for the next system update from Garmin. The current system is prone to stop working and requires you to reset the unit. This is a known issue and is supposedly fixed in the next version.
My unit was having difficulties auto-recalcing a route too.
I don't care for the topographic layer that appears on the map when scaled out 8+ miles. It reduces the contrast between the roads and surface making it extremely difficult to see the roads.
The speed limit thing is OK, but when traveling over the speed limit the current speed is colored red making it extremely difficult to see what your current speed is. Again, a contrast issue.
The weather screen is separate from the main screen. There's no way to overlay the weather onto the main screen, but the weather screen does show your current route. Of course, that pesky topo layer appears and reduces the contrast between inclement weather and the background making it difficult to see the weather!
I'm not sure who the "bikers" were that helped design this thing, but on the bike as one scans the instrument panel, gps, etc contrast is key and is something this unit lacks in a major way.
Hopefully, Garmin's next system update will remedy some of these issues. I don't recommend this unit until that happens.

GARMIN ZUMO 665 - THE JURY IS OUT
Pros: xm radio, weather and traffic, large screen Cons: several button clicks to return to the map
I purchased the zumo 665 to replace a BMW Navigator III (Garmin) about three weeks ago (my fourth Garmin). The old Navi III is a good GPS, but I'm planning a motorcycle trip across the U.S. East to West and back again this July and the MP3 player, XM radio, weather and traffic is very appealing. For the moment the 4 rating could turn to be a 5 or a 1, and recommending it to a friend is a yes maybe for now. The 665 futures and functionally are very good - that is until it stops working. I took a shake down ride of about 1000 miles with several different routes uploaded from RoadTrip (Mac version of MapSource). I've been using both Mac and PC map software for a long time and am very familiar with their use. Everything was good while navigating on the first route until the screen froze during a repaint. Recovered OK by stopping and turning the ignition on and off. Later, while navigating the same route, the screen went black. The fix this time was to stop and remove the battery. Pretty annoying! During the next couple of days there were no routes navigated - just going where I knew the roads, but with tracking turned on. Everything seemed good. XM radio worked great, weather alerts worked fine (no traffic alerts where I was in WV). Towards the end of day three I got a "No Memory Left" error, which was pretty odd. Saved the current tracking and started a new tacking session thinking this may be the issue. Got another memory error shortly thereafter and figured I'll deal with it later. Next day, when I loaded a route to head home I noticed the route was showing 650 miles to the home distention, when it's really only about 150 miles. Seems that the route had somehow inherited the tracks from the day before and started my route from the current location and took me back to where I had been. More than most annoying!! Tried several things including a hard re-boot so all data was lost. Next, put in Home as the destination and it worked as expected. Contacted Garmin the following day. Takes forever (40 minutes) to get someone unfortunately. But, the support guy was great. Actually all of my calls to Garmin have been positive except for the really long wait time. He had me try a couple of things (check s/w and firmware version, memory available, etc.) and then said we're going to replace the unit. They turned it around in 5 days with a brand new unit - all shipping paid by Garmin. This is what you'd expect with a GPS that cost as much as a 665, but not all companies would do this without trying everything under the sun first. Garmin did so without any fuss, muss or me needing to ask them to do it. The replacement unit is up and running. I leave for the big trip in a week, but I will take a back-up GPS (Navi III). So, the jury is out for now. Stay tuned. BTW, everyone I know who has a zumo 660 (no XM Radio) is very happy.

INTERESTING UPGRADE FROM ZUMMO 550.
Pros: see review, not enough space Cons: see review, not enough space
I was an early adopter of the Zumo 550 when it came out, used it with wired headset in helmet and XM Radio. Was drawn to the 665 because of stereo bluetooth support, larger screen.
This one boots up much quicker when I turn on the bike, a major plus. The main screens are well-laid out and informative. I initially didn't like the idea of the quick-release mount, but it's grown on me in the last few weeks.
I miss the physical buttons on the left side of the case that the 550 had, I could run the unit without even looking down from the windscreen. I also VERY MUCH miss the main speed and fuel gauge screen the 550 had, the replacement on the 665 is small and cluttered.
In short, I'm happy with the new unit and I'm not going back. I'm sad that Garmin tossed out some standout features in their new line.

Can't get any better than this. Only problem is if you are Canadian, XM does NOT offer any Ground Weather which you then cannot use this unit to it's full capabilities. XM does offer XM traffic but only in 3 cities in the entire country plus as far as music goes, they offer almost 30 channels LESS that what us citizens get plus we pay easily double the price for a sub...just get a US address and call XM US...XM weather still won't work in Canada either way.

EXPENSIVE, BUT WELL WORTH IT
Pros: weather proof, easy to use performs as advertised Cons: xm radio w/ no power hook up will drain battery
Purchased the 665 to replace my 550. The 665 is far and away a much superior unit. It is expensive but well worth the cost XM radio antenna is included and works well. The weather mapping and severe weather warning is very useful. No problems with synch to my bluethooth items - a BlackBerry Tour, No problems with getting the contact book off my BlackBerry either. Scala bluethooth headset and various computers. Built in MP3 Player will accept a 32gig micro card and that alone may cause you to not get an XM radio subscription. I've had no lockups, no problmes with updating the firmware, and no problmes with the mapping software. Overall I'd say it was a good purchase - and it is Texas downpour proof - tested that and it still works. Did find out that with no exteranl power hook up and XM Radio active the battery will be drained with in 20 min or quicker.

GARMIN ZUMO 665
Pros: xm capabilities (weather/traffic),screen size Cons: no aux to tie into back of a radio if bike has one
I purchased this GPS for a lengthy trip I was taking. I bought this model due to the fact that it had the capability to sign up for XM weather and traffic. The ability for XM radio was also a nice bonus. It can be taken from the bike to the car with an additional antenna. Installation was easy under the fairing of my bike. Cheaper for unit than to by the seperate adapters (navigation and XM radio) for Harley Radio. The only downside is the mount for the motorcycle has no way to hook into the back of a Non- Harley HK Radio so you have to run a auxilary cable from the unit to the radio. It would have been a nice touch to have off of the mount that gets hidden in the fairing to be able to connect to a rear auxillary input.
Unit is very responsive even with gloves on. Touch screen works superbly.
It has various modes on it so you can switch settings from motorcycle, to automobile to bicycle. As well as the detour button in case you stumble on that long backup on the interstate-- I used that in conjunction with traffic updates and avoided a lot of excess traffic. Some areas the live traffic isn't updated accurately but the detour button will get you out of a jam.
I enjoyed the routes chosen when I told the unit to avoid interstate/highways and toll roads.
You can also use this Garmin with the Harley Route Planner to download route you created there. You just have to realize that it breaks it down into segments and to label them otherwise your going to get a bunch of numbers in your routes. So if you are doing a multi day trip you are going to need to label. What I did was Day 1 Stop 1, Day 1 Stop 2 etc. That way you know what order.
It has a built in trip/route log. I loved this function it broke the trip down by date and mileage. You can review certain parts of the trip. It will come in handy when I make the same 2600 mile trip in the future. It also gives you some other neat information like altitude and other weather information.
It allows you store a lot of points along the way. I utilized this function a lot when I came across areas that I would definitely want to see again.
Some of the menus can be a little tricky, but I blame that on me not downloading the manual and printing it prior to my trip. There is no manual in the box which would have been nice to have versus the quick set up guide. For the amount you pay for the unit the manual should have been included.
I will say the first unit I received ran into some technical difficulties half way through the trip-- It would sporadically shut off on its own. I will say kudos to Garmin. When I called about this they immediately sent a return label and over nighted a new unit. Great customer service.
There is also a current rebate promotion by Garmin for a 100 dollar rebate on Zumo models.
The Ram mount for the bike is very good.

VERSATILE LITTLE PACKAGE
Pros: everything you need in 1 unit mp3, bluetooth gps Cons: expensive
My wife has a nuvi and i have a CS76cx for hunting and vehicle use and I was apprehensive when purchasing this item because….lets face it, it costs quite a bit. I purchased the unit and it arrived 2 days later. I missed the Fedex guy, so lets call it three. It worked right out of the box. I registered, downloaded, uploaded and used it that night in my jeep. It was way cool. It was too bright at night and I had to turn down the display. Volume was good even before I plugged it into the aux input and even better after. Mounting the motorcycle bracket on the Harley was easy as was the power hook up. Only fault I find is the leads could be arranged better to accommodate storage when not in use. Blue tooth for phone is great, and it comes through the aux line into vehicle speakers when plugged in. its easy to navigate using the touch screen. I haven’t had the chance to use it on my motorcycle yet, but I will tomorrow. If it works half as good on the Harley as it does in the Jeep I’ll be super satisfied. Have to hook up the XM radio antenna and find a place to mount it then it will be complete. I think it will be the perfect riding companion.

BEST WEATHER TRACKING GARMIN 665
I have been using the GARMIN 550 over the last 3-year and love the weather radar the 665 offers. On a recent 3 state motorcycle trip the problem I have with the unit was after about 2 hour of riding the GPS would power off on its own. In most cases I could just push the power button and it would start back up. In two cases when it shut down I had to pull the battery out to get it to reset. Over all I love and I am working with GARMIN to fix.

WORKS WELL OVERALL
Pros: better data display Cons: cannot reset odometer
Installed the 665 a few days ago replacing a first generation 550. Many enhancements over the 550. Only issue found so far is that the Odometer counter in the trip display cannot be reset to zero without resetting the unit.
