AWESOME GARMIN CRADLE FOR MOTORCYCLES
Pros: weather resistant, durable, perfect fit. Cons: absolutely none
This is the 2nd Garmin cradle I have owned for motorcycles. Not sure you understand what I just said: "Motorcycles"! It is exposed to all the elements, all the time - wind, speed, dirt, hail, bugs, rain, snow, and my fat gloved fingers and hands! Yet they just keep on working - flawless product, sturdy, and although probably not guaranteed against water or my MC falling on it a few times, they always keep working. Cables and plugs too! I mount my GPS up high on the MC bar using a RAM mount and use the ZUMO GPS on this cradle for watching my speed as well as GPS functions. No more having to glance down to squint at the speedometer or fuel gauge even. As important, the cradle does not get loose once it is hand tightened! Easily locked to the GPS Unit with a nifty special little tool, which BTW, if you need extras, are available at most hardware stores for back-up. Great Product.

BEST MOUNT AROUND.
Pros: most secure mount on the market.
This is tghe second one of these mounts I have. My old bike had the fairing mount for the Quest II. It was poorly designed and kept unlocking. On an recent trip i hit a bump that caused the cradel to disengage from the fairing mount and my gps along wioth the cradel went bounding downs the Interstate behind me. I have a 550 with this mount on my newer bike and after looking at the fairing mounts for the newer Zummos I decided to go with this mount and use my 550 on both bikes. This is a great product.

NOT SO WATERPROOF
Pros: great gps to use Cons: not really waterproof
Although Garmin says these mounts are waterproof (a requirement for motorcycle use) I have one that allowed water to enter and failed.Mine is not the first with this problem as many internet forums will confirm. Do not spray when washing your bike, rather put a plastic bag over it when doing so.I would also protect when riding in heavy rain. I would have expected more from such a pricy GPS system.

GARMIN ZUMO 550 MOTORCYCLE LOCKING CRADLE
Pros: waterproofing problem Cons: good solid generic bike mount
The GPS ZUMO 550 works great and I highly recommend it, however, the bike mount is not water proof and failed in the middle of a trip. The new bike mount works as good as the original as expected but did not come with the Torx Head Locking Screw and Screw Driver as advertised, which I would have preferred, but came with the original 2 prong system, which sucks. This time I disassembled the 2 halves of the mount and placed a bead of RTV in the gasket grooves on the side without the gasket and then reassembled it gasket to RTV. I also put some dielectric grease in the power socket before attaching the power cord. This should help with the water proofing. My ratings are based on the functioning of the device not the waterproofing inherent problem. As far as bike mounts go this is probably the best I have seen.

GARMIN 550 LOCKING CRADLE
Pros: the unit works great Cons: poor locking screw assembly
Very impressed with the service. Promptness and accuracy of the order were second to none. This was a replacement item so I new what to expect. The GPS worked flawlessly, however, the cradle itself was faulty. The small screw locking mechanism did and does not screw properly into the female end. It is not free and easy like the old one. It is a small and annoying detail for which I did not send back the entire unit because I needed the cradle for a trip. Hope this faulty locking mechanism does not come back to haunt me.

ZUMO MOUNT
Pros: price, durability Cons: when riding in rain or wasj=hing contacts corrode
The mounting is easy and adjustable. Removal of the GPS is quick.
The locking screw is a pain . You need to carry the tool to remove. Making it just one more thing to carry in you pocket
The ZUMO contacts corrode if you ride in rain of wash often. Protect the mount with a plastic bag and dielectric grease on comtacts

HAVE TO HAVE IT, BUT IT DOESN'T HOLD UP!
Pros: very nice in all respects - until it quits chargin Cons: it quits charging the gps - bring a spare!
If you have a Zumo and ride a moto, you have to have this cradle, but it will likely fail to charge - in the middle of nowhere. Mine failed in Africa. Others' have failed in Peru, France, Nebraska....

GARMIN ZUMO 550 LOCKING MOTORCYCLE CRADLE
Pros: provides locking for gps Cons: rubber pin cover vulnerable to drying out
I've had this mount since 2006, heavy rain to direct sun, freezing to very hot temperatures it's been exposed to all different kinds of weather and the only problem I've ever had with it is that the rubber pin cover dried out and broke off, but other than zero problems. One recent ride I put the GPS on for a short jaunt without using the screw which I've done before with no issues but this time the locking screw fell out. So I'll have to replace the cradle soon for that one reason. Other than that, I love the cradle it's brilliant.

SECURE GPS MOUNT
Pros: lock the gps to the bike. Cons: sensitive to water when gps is not installed.
I replaced this cradle because the original shorted out when being outside in a downpour without the GPS installed. I generally leave the GPS on the bike. This one time I took it off it rained. I now leave the GPS out on the bike all the time. Using the security screw it can be locked on the bike worry free.

ZUMO 550 MOUNT
Cons: bad design
I love my Zumo, but the mount failed. A common problem apparently, 3rd pin forward row failed corroded out, Considering this is a moto specific unit, it should not happen in my mind. Replacement unit looks to be the same as original, which means in 2 or 3 years I will be looking for another. Rumor has it that for increased longevity disconnect power to the unit when not in use.....sort of defeats the purpose IMHO. I still love my Zumo but its sort of wasteful having simple flaws in design which result in failure. Bottom line great product with an inherent design flaw. Continuous power to the unit causes pins to fail.

GARMIN LOCKING CRADLE FOR ZUMO 550
Pros: easy to install-rigid fabrication Cons: electrical contacts are in a water prone spot
Good materials used . Looks sturdy for outdoor exposure. Was easily mounted on the Ram add on parts reviewed separately. the power cord mounts easily with the supplied screws( which are very tiny). Only negative comment( which is me nitpicking ) is the supplied stainless steel screws to mount the backing plate are not black like the cradle itself and are more obvious because of the colour mismatch.

GOOD MOUNT WITH AN ISSUE
Pros: simple strong mount. Cons: not sure if garmin has fixed this obvious design i
Everyone I have met who has one of these mounts agrees that they are very practical and user friendly etc. but almost all of them have failed through the infiltration of moisture into the internal electrical connections. This is a replacement for a failed unit.

THIS MOUNT IS NOT WATERPROOF!
Pros: good sturdy mount Cons: not waterproof
I purchased this as a replacement for the original unit which is just over two years old. Although the Zumo GPS unit is waterproof, the cradle is not! Do not rely on the rubber cover to protect the pins from the elements when the GPS is not in place.Either cover the cradle with a zip-lock bag or remove it when not in use.

REPLACEMENT GARMIN ZUMO 550 LOCKING CRADLE
I've had my garmin for a few years and rode with it in the rain alot. Over time I noticed the pins on the mount getting gunky and in the end they started to 'bend' and my GPS would not work. Replaced the mount and it works like new again. Just one of those things that will wear down over time with exposure to the elements.

Installed on my Harley in '07. Has been on the bike for over 25,000 miles. Have never removed it. Lost the "weather cap" which covers the pins within the 1st year and the cap for the "locking screw" screwdriver blade broke. But it the unit still works.

ZUMO BIKE MOUNT
Pros: these cradles do allow switching between vehicles Cons: only the gps itself is weather resistant
I hesitate to recommend the Zumo itself to people simply because of the the cradle problems. I purchased the unit several years ago and have used it lots on my bike. I should point out that on my original unit the rubber cover for the pins deteriorated and fell apart the first year. Because I store my bike inside and its covered when its outside I continued to used it. I even cleaned the brass pins occasionally with a Q tip to avoid problems. I am here writing this because several pins on the mount simply fell over the first time this spring I went to put the Zumo on it. Needless to say it was disappointing after the high initial purchase price and being so careful with it. I have now replaced the on bike cradle and the car cradle So be aware that you will most likely be replacing these occasionally.

ZUMO 550 CRADLE
Pros: oem quality Cons: none
This is what I needed to share the use of the GPS between two motorcycles with minimum fuss. This is the identical item that is supplied with the Zumo 550. All I needed to make both bikes ready to accept the GPS was this part and the power cable I also purchased. The original cradle is still going strong after 2 Alaska rides and 50000 mile. I always cover the bike when overnight so water damage has not been an issue. My windshield keeps most of the rain off the GPS when moving.

ZUMO MOUNT SUCEPTIBLE TO MOISTURE DAMAGE
Pros: sturdy, secure mount. Cons: prone to moisture-related corrosion
After just over two year's service my Zumo would no longer power up when placed in its factory mount. I had to turn it on manually. I subsequently discovered that this is a fairly common moisture-related problem -- corrosion of pins and eventual internal shorting. Some report that Garmin is aware of this flaw and will replace the mount when under warranty. When I contacted Garmin USA they were initially helpful and provided some indication that they would replace the unit (which was out of warranty), but abruptly punted me off to their Canadian distributor. I declined to contact them since their list price was significantly more than that of GPS City.
