GREAT DETAIL...BUT
Pros: great detail Cons: spotty trail/off road coverage coverage
These maps have great detail, but it would have been nice if they had a more thorough coverage of foot/bike/atv trails. Its noteworthy to mention that unless you have a GPS unit with a larger screen (eg. Montana), the level of detail may be too difficult to read on the smaller screen GPS units (e.g. 60csx)

SW DVD TOPO
Pros: very detailed topo info. Cons: too busy for small screen on gps and many trails m
This has much more topo detail than I expected. Too much topo info for the small screen on the Garmin unit. Also there are a large number of trails (specifically in Utah since that is the only place I have tried it) missing and it is useless for much of the hiking opportunities. I have been using it on my laptop to plan trips but won't be able to use it for secondary roads and hiking trails which is what I bought it for.

GOOD AND BAD
Pros: basecamp is great as is the visuals Cons: less of a product that topo us
I bought this to replace Topo US as every spring I head to the southwest for back packing and hiking adventures. Much to my horror all of the dirt roads (of which there are hundreds) mapped in Topo Us are not included in 24K. This is a big deal for anyone travelling off the beaten track as almost all roads off the highway are dirt roads. You can not use it to route yourself to places like Horsehoe Canyon in the Canyonlands region of Utah, nor can you route yourself to the Hidden Splendor mine (50 kilometers from the highway via many dirt roads). If this is not a concern to you then it's a really nice product but if it is I'd stay away from it till Garmin decides to put them back in with an update.

ATV TRAILS AND TOPO MAPPING
Very disappointed. Very few trails shown and are very hard to see. Topo part is not to bad but makes the maps hard to read.

GARMIN MAQPS
It will not load and the advice I get from Garmin is to make sure it is a DVD drive and to wipe the disk off.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
I thought since it was a Garmin product it would be accurate, boy was I wrong! A feature claim on the disc cover claims "Thousands of up-to-date routable roads...". The Arizona map in the White Mountain area has wrong numbers on Forest roads, in the city of Tucson it shows a street (Alvernon) ending at the river, it does not. I know this is only a small area of coverage but, I know these areas and if they are wrong how can a person turst these maps in unknown areas? Its back to National Georaphic topos and Delorme Atlas and Gazetteer for me.

TOPO MAPPING SYSTEM
The mapping was easy to use and the Base Camp software was user friendly. I was the Garmin 60csi GPS. I used the Software for a day hike into the Grand Canyon and felt it met my needs.

GARMIN TOPO MAPS FOR SW US
Cons: lack of printed instructions
I got this on the recommendation of a friend who is in charge of GIS for the state of NM, and who felt strongly that considering where I'd likely be spending most of my time hiking and backpacking (NM & CO)...that I'd best be served with the 1:24,000 scale format...getting a lot more detail and data for the areas covered. I'm still learning the GPS and it's capabilities and have no regrets. I give the product rating a 4, only because I probably had some false expectations of how much info this would serve up in a small handheld appliance. When looking at the product promotional material, you are lulled into thinking that you'll receive lush 3D images of forests on your GPS screen, when the reality is that you should feel fortunate to have the outstanding detail of topo lines to identify landforms, etc. I am looking forward to printing out some map sections to augment the GPS info, as I'm also learning map/compass skills in case of equipment failure and battery death!
