WONDERFUL PRODUCT !
Pros: detailed, convenient, reasonable price Cons: none
For the first time Garmin is beginning to roll out 24K Topo maps on very convenient microSD cards. ( includes SD card adapter ) No computer needed, just put it in your unit and go. No fuss, no muss !
All I can say is it is about time !
They are starting with the western states and going east. If your state is not covered yet, please be patient. They are all coming.
This is the highest level of mapping detail available for your Garmin unit. They work best on the new Colorado and Oregon series units as you will see see 3-D views and color terrain shading on these units only. Very Nice !!
These are a must have for hikers, geocachers and any outdoor enthusiasts.
Highly recommended !!

NO COMPUTER COMPATIBILITY! WILL NOT OPEN ON PC
Basically a waste of money since it is NOT readable on your computer screen. It does not say it on the box, however Garmin should understand that their users need to link their GPS from their field unit to their PC for proper route planning, record history of trails, roads etc and be able to back-up that information over the years. I purchased this Micro-1/24K card for use in a Garmin 60 CSx that I use for hiking, fishing, ATV routing, snowmobiling, 4X4'ing. I create maps using MapSource CD Software to record waypoints and routes, special interests, bridges, hunting & fishing areas, etc. Over the winter I open up my maps and transfer them to USGS 24K paper maps for quick reference. I bought this 24k map software so it would be compatible to USGS 1/24k maps even by map Name. I will still be able to transfer the data, but now only directly from the GPS screen using the 'pointer' to get the UTM grid coordinates out. I called Garmin directly and asked about the compatibility and after many 'holds' and a rude customer service Rep, it was confirmed that this microSD software is NOT readable by computer. I made a rather 'strong' suggestion to product marketing that this information should be on the box and in the internet product descriptions. The only option is to save waypoints from previously existing Mapsource maps to the 60 CSx by removing the card from the unit, save it to the internal memory of the unit, then replace the card. Customer Service made it very clear that if I saved the tracks and waypoints to the unit before removing the card, it would over- write the $100 1/24k software and it would be irretrievable. Since I cannot dowload the information from the GPS, there is no known program to copy the information to another Micro SD, if my unit was to crash I would lose years of waypoints, points of interest, routes, etc. Garmin seems to be going back in time and Technology with their recent Oregon & Colorado GPS software & durability disasters, and now this. My 2001 Black & White Garmin E-Trex VISTA with Metric MapSource CD's is more diverse than 8 years of R&D in a new unit and new Software. Really, what good is a highly detailed map if you cannot take advantage of the detail by viewing it on the big screen of your PC to plan a route if you cannot transfer it to your Field Unit GPS? Garmin...Why not make this 1/24k scale map on CD? GARMIN.....are you listening?
