INSTALL ON ONE OR MORE UNITS
Pros: good dvd product (probably) Cons: downloadable: don't buy
I'd like to comment on two observations that have been made in other comments on whether or not you can install the map on more than one GPS. The facts: you can if you bought the DVD and installed the DVD on the computer. You CAN'T if you bought a downloadable version, as I did. I strongly do not recommend a downloadable version, as you cannot use the map on any other device than the one it was downloaded for, can't print from the map, and are limited apparently for establishing routes. On top of that, the map I downloaded somehow got locked in the months I did not use it, and many e-mails to and from Garmin were necessary before they could or would resolve the issue. For the subject of usability on many devices with downloadable maps,see http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={16315fb0-39b2-11de-5dd5-000000000000}

TOPO US 24K NORTHEAST DVD
Pros: great detail Cons: dosn't seem to be a way to veiw full screen
Loaded this on several Garmin Rino's Much better detail than 1/100,000 Toppo charts but also uses a lot more memory. If yor planning to use this on a Rino, recommend HCx models, which have provision for up to 4G

EXCELLENT UP-TO-DATE MAPS
Pros: detailed roads, streams, lakes, ponds, contours. Cons: consumes a lot more card memory. 215 mb for maine.
I load topo maps into a Garmin 276C memory card for off- road travel - hunting & ATV riding. I have had Garmin's USA 100k Topo and wanted more detail for Maine. This has it. Roads are much more recent and detailed. I am very pleased.

GOOD PRODUCT
Pros: great topo detail Cons: older road data
Using in on my GPSMap 76CSx. Has a lot of great detail, although you can not get the full ' bells & whistles' as you would on the newer GPS models. The road data is not current, seems like they used data from a few years ago then layed the topo data on top. Obviouly you are buying this for the topo data and not the roads, but this will autoroute you so with old road data that couple be a problem geocaching, etc. To counter a comment in a previous review, you CAN use this software in multiple units, Garmim & GPS City both confirmed this, so if you lose your GPS or upgrade to a new one you are all set. All in all a great product!

PERFORMS AS ADVERTISED
Pros: accurate, a blast to use in the woods Cons: lacks some well known trail info
Not as detailed as I expected but a good product nonetheless. Recent firmware update to my Oregon 400 increased the detail which was helpful. It is cool technology for an avid outdoorsman. I would buy it again. Plan to add more areas of the US.

GOOD TOPO BUT SOME LANDMARKS ARE MISSING.
Pros: the maps show a small number of hiking trails.
I've only used the 24K a short time, but I noticed that none of the major power transmission lines are shown and a number of dirt roads are shown as trails. While I can overlook the later, the loss of the transmission lines that I have used a number of times for reference is a large negative and makes me wonder what else is missing.
The maps do include icons for schools, restaurants, parks, and businesses to mentions just a few.
I checked with Garmin before I purchased the maps and the maps are NOT restricted to one GPS unit.

JUST A THOUGHT
Make sure you understand that if you buy this software and install it on your handheld then can't use the handheld for ANY reason such as fire/water/loss/stole/ran over with car lol and you decide to buy another Garmin Handheld you will have to purchase the software all over again as Garmin will not let you use it on the new Handheld. I know as I've tried several times to talk to them. Just stating Fact....
