NOT MADE TO BE SEPARATED FROM GPS FREQUENTLY
Pros: works well when connected continually Cons: not strong enough to be removed from gps repeatedl
I used this for a 21 day trip last summer removing the GPS from the bike for meals and motels. After 14 days the cord started coming apart at the connection behind the GPS. I was able to crazy glue it for a while but eventually gave up on it and am now looking for a beefier cable setup.

REPLACEMENT POWER CORD FOR GARMIN ZUMO 220
Cons: could do without the data cabling.
The cord works fine. I only needed it for power from my dual sport bike battery, so I just taped up the data conductors. It was just long enough to work after routing the cables through the wiring pathways.

GOOD CABLE
Pros: looks to be good quality Cons: plug is reversed on my oregon
Nice cable, good looking quality, only use it for power so I don't know about the serial connection. Plug is reversed on my oregon, so it sticks out in the front, would be nicer if the cable went to the back.

GOOD BUT NOT GREAT
Pros: easy to costumize length. Cons: plug upside-down
Very easy to customize the length and trim wires I didn't need. My only gripe is the plug is designed for the 500 series so it fits "upside-down" on the Oregon. Not a big deal but not perfect.

GARMIN POWER AND DATA CABLE FOR NUVI 5XX ZUMO 220
Pros: cheap, flat out works Cons: none
I have an Oregon 400T and using a standard car charger and USB cable on my bike flat out did not work, the mini USB was always vibrating out of the GPS. This solved that problem, just did a 1700 mile ride and not one issue.

A MUST HAVE CABLE FOR THE NUVI 500 AND 550
Pros: perfect combination Cons: no really any
I use this cable on my Harley Davidson touring bike to keep my nuvi 500 powered up. I chose the 500 because it is water tight and I can use it in the rain when I'm heading up north. I have a RAM mount tucked back near my speedo and tach and with the combination of the nuvi and RAM it's a perfect combination. I simply wired in the cable to my fuse block, sodered the connection and ran the cable under my tank and up to my speedo/tach area. I used wire ties to make it a clean job. Works great

GARMIN POWER/DATA CABLE NUVI/ZUMO
Cons: see text
Expensive for what it is, but that goes for most Garmin products. Functionally fine in itself, but the USB style connector is sub-tastic for my application (off road motorcycling). Not a fault of the cable's, just a crap- tacular setup with the Nuvi 550. Constant loss of power as the connection is not a strong & positive one. This might work better in an automotive or static application.

PERFECT POWER SOLUTION
Pros: eliminates power port hook up, constant power
I used this cable to connect my Nuvi 550 to my motorcycle, and it is exactly what I needed. I have a BMW 1200RT and because that bike, and most BMW's I understand, have a hard wired connector port to power GPS' and other electronics, I simply bought the connector from my dealer, connected the bare wires together, taped them up, and I no longer need to mess with battery chargers or clunky power port to cigarette lighter adapters.
Just used it on a 2,100 km trip through many storms and it worked like a charm.

JUNK
Cons: not made to last.
the inline fuse didnt make proper connection so the power to the gps would shut off and on all the time. i had to cut it off and replace fuse w/ a Buss fuse all weather fuse. the wires on this cable are so thin that when i connected it to the batterie the wire broke off.

GOOD CABLE
Pros: good power, work as described Cons: doesn't support cold weather
Not that good on snowmobile because plastic skin doesn't support cold weather and crack... After that GPS (Nuvi550) began to display error messages.....

GPS CABLE
Pros: adjusts power to match gps requirement Cons: wires smaller gauge than i would have liked
I bought this cable to hard-wire my Garmin 500 into my motorcycle harness. It works well note that cable has wires for data transfer, which I just taped off. I also wired a single-pole single throw switch onto hot side, so I can turn GPS on or off regardless of ignition power.

GPS POWER CABLE
Pros: works as advertised. plenty of length. Cons: none
The power cable was wired into an accessory plug on a Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle. I crimped two bullet plugs on the appropriate wires, pluged it in and ran the cable under the gas tank to the center of the handlebars. I then pluged in my Garmin Nuvi 500 and it works fine. I couldn't ask for more.

CABLE PRODUCES ERROR MESSAGE
I bought this power cable so I could have hard-wired power for my nuvi 250W in my second vehicle. I was told it would power all nuvi models. What I was not told was that my nuvi would give me a "this accessory is not supported" message every time it powers up. All you have to do is press the "ok" button and it does in fact power the unit but the message is somewhat annoying.

NUVI POWER CABLE FOR MOTORCYCLE
Pros: made for the nuvi and has an inline fuse. Cons: garmin should have one w/o the data wires.
I installed this on my motorcycle to power a Nuvi 550. It was the perfect length to get from the battery to the handle bars. I did not use the data wires, I just bundled them up.This is the cable you want as it has the 5 volt step down transformer.

WORKS GREAT
Pros: works as advertised Cons: no dust cap for miniusb
I bought this item to hard-wire my Garmin Nuvi 550 to my 2009 KLR 650. It is great because I know that the voltage into the GPS is exactly what is needed. I shortened it about a foot, soldered on a couple connectors on the ends and it works great. I am only using the + and - wires, but it comes with other leads for data. A side note on the Nuvi: the battery is supposed to last 8 hours. It might if it is on the lowest brightness setting and it is not being used to navigate.) I love the Nuvi, but you need this hard- wire harness for trips longer than 2 hours.

NOT THE BEST CABLE FOR THE NUVI SERIES
Pros: works nicely with oregon Cons: does not work nicely with nuvi
I bought this cable and it works just fine with my Oregon but when I plug it into my Nuvi 850, it only powers the screen to half brightness no matter what I do to the brightness controls on the gps.
When I unplug the cable and go to battery power, the Nuvi screen illuminates to full intensity. I don't think the cable is broken, but it certainly does not work very well with the Nuvi series.

USEFUL ON A MOTORCYCLE
Pros: transformer is close to the usb end of the cable Cons: usb connector is fairly fragile
The cable has a transformer built in so it takes the 12 volt output from my bike's battery and steps it down so the gps is not overpowered. The transformer is close to the usb end of the cable so I shortened the cable to about 1' long, then soldered on a molded power connector, and it works beautifully.

VERY USEFUL CABLE
Pros: solid construction Cons: none
I bought this cable because it has the power reduction capability built in, without needing to be plugged into a lighter outlet.
I shortened the cable to about 2' long and soldered a molded power connector so I can plug the gps into my motorcycle through a direct connection to the bike's battery.
Works really well!

SOMEONE DIDN'T THINK THINGS THROUGH...
Pros: power and data :-) Cons: no power, no data!
I purchased the Garmin Power and Data Cable to use with an Oregon 300 GPS. My intention was to have a cable that I could use in the car to power the GPS, and also to have a data cable to supply coordinates from the GPS to my computerized telescope (Losmandy Gemini) mount and APRS capable VHF radio. However, while assembling and testing the cable it seems that the circuitry in the cable assembly requires power, and not from the GPS end, for the serial data connection to function! This means, to briefly get data from my GPS to telescope mount, I have to find external power for the cable to work! This is very dissapointing.
I understand that Garmin makes a USB (on the GPS) to DB9 serial cable, where the USB/RS232 conversion is powered from the GPS, at the cost of battery life. Considering this Power and Data can provide DC power to the GPS, why can’t the GPS directly drive the RS232 data lines?
I have finished my Garmin Power and Data Cable with a 12- volt lighter plug and DB9 serial cable. It’s too bad Garmin doesn’t sell a prefabricated cable in this configuration, like they did for older GPS units. At some point I’ll but the “Garmin Rino 5xx Series PC Interface Cable” for GPS to RS232 without needing external power: http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-rino-5xx-series-pc-interface- cable.html
