BAD SATELLITE RECEPTION,SLOW REROUTING, SCREEN PRB
Pros: looks like a gps, fancy ideas Cons: just does not work
Takes forever to get reception. Have to turn it on, wait for 10 minutes or longer at times before it wakes up. Rest of the problems similar to others who have been given wrong or really long directions. This does not have the feature where you can see it searching for satellites and the signal strength that the older models had, which would have helped.

GARMIN 775T (NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION)
Pros: getting a $600 gps for $300 ) Cons: not so much, just a little shipping slip...
So, I was looking at this on Amazon for about 6 months because I am heading to Germany in July and wanted something that I could use both here and there and here when I came home again. My plan was to get this and the lifetime updates and be done with it. That is what I did, but not from Amazon. The day I went out to get it, it jumped from $387 up to $489. I was so ticked, I went looking elsewhere and found gpscity.com. No kidding, $299... I thought it had to be a re-furb or something but I read every word and there was nothing about that on the page so I jumped on it. If there was one complaint, it was just that it took a few days longer to get here than it should have since I paid for upgraded shipping, but no big deal. I knew this model had a firmware issue and that the most important thing was to get it out of the box, charge it up and get the firmware loaded ASAP before it had a chance to kill the unit. That seemed to be the only consistent complaint anyone had about it. I followed the directions, updated it and the maps and it has worked like a dream. I am still trying to figure out why they stopped making this one. I hope it is not another major issue I just have not heard of because it seems their CS folks in Germany may not be the best. As for the guys stateside here, they were awesome getting the web access set up when it would not let me in. Turns out, Garmin.com has "issues" with Firefox, but all was well with IE and the download/upgrade went smoothly. By the way, just on a whim, I went out to Amazon the day it got here, and they were selling the last few units they had for over $600 so I don't think there are any major issues. Maybe Garmin just decided the waypoints are not that important... Overall, you guys rock and this was a slammin' deal. Thank you!!!

WHEN IN EUORPE OR THE U.S.
Pros: garmin makes excellent gps and this one is no diff Cons: can't find satellites without cable connected
I recently rented a car and drove around Spain for which this European & North American GPS unit proved excellent. I have had other Garmin units and though they do keep moving things around making you have to learn the new unit a bit they do also keep improving them and adding features.

EXCELLENT GPS FOR NORTH AMERICA AND EUROPE
Pros: bright, clear display, fast response, good feature Cons: built in sound quality and volume could be better
I travel extensively with my work in both North America and Europe. When it came time to replace my old GPS (Garmin iQue 6000) I decided on the Nuvi 775T because it had all the features I wanted including being loaded with both North American and European maps. I have used the GPS in both Europe and North America and found that it works very well. I like the lane assist function although would like to see it have broader coverage. The traffic alert function also seems to work well.
Boot up time and time to lock on satellites is adequate although it does take time to find itself after travelling between continents. The infterface is very easy to use and intuitive. The display brightness is excellent even when in direct sunlight. The sound quality and volume isn't the greatest but acceptable and I usually will run it through the vehicle audio system in conjunction with the built in mp3 player and bluetooth functions, which are bother features I was looking for and they both work very well.
Installation is very easy and the unit remains steady even under vibration. I like that the cable interfaces to the gps mount so when you pull the gps off you don't have to disconnect the cable.
Routing performance is very quick and automatically reroutes when deviations are made from the planned route. I did find in some occasions that it did not always select the optimal route but for the most part routing was very good.
I particularly like the way new destinations can be loaded directly from Google maps. This is a very handy feature.
The unit has a very solid feel and I like the rubberized coating on the unit which makes it easy to handle.
Overall I am very pleased with the 775T and would not hesitate to reccommend it to anyone the needs a higher end gps with both European and North American maps.

ITS A SHOCKER FROM GARMIN
Pros: lots of good features Cons: a lot
not good at all (surprisingly) i m garmin fan press one button something else comes out, freezes, hangs, gives u very little time for turns Common problems: Touch screen accuracy is bad - you have to backspace and retype all the time - even when I use a stylus pen to improve my accuracy. Screen sometimes freezes temporarily during typing. Unit froze up during route calculation - had to do a hard reset and lost all my custom data. Bluetooth randomly causes unit to mute when call ends - have to turn it off and on to fix.

WORST AUTOMOTIVE GPS
Pros: none Cons: see complaints
I purchased this GPS after my other GPS was stolen. I have it now for about 6 months and used it around Alberta. Going to Waterton Park, I thought I would try it coming back to Calgary. Well using it, it would have told me to turn off onto some country road, insteading of the main highway. In the city of Calgary, it would tell me to go a few hundred meters and make a uturn when in fact I should be going straight.
Just got back from Hawaii and it gave me hopeless directions. Our friends were in another car and their GPS gave them completely different directions and correct directions.
This unit could be dangerous if you relied on it, particularily in bad weather!!
I am fed up!!

NICE IDEA, POORLY EXECUTED
Pros: screen size Cons: poor battery life. marginal accuracy. limited data
Have had this unit for almost a year. An upgrade (I thought) from my Nuvi 360. Wrong. The only thing I really got was a larger screen. The 775T is not that intuitive and some features (like the Editor of this forum recommended for calibration of the touchscreen) are either buried in the manual or the instructions are so unclear as to be unusable. Another example of poor documentation: the 775T is suppossed to automatically shift between USA and Europe maps as you enter the Euro zone. Well, this is not always the case, but nowhere in the User Manual or in the FAQ's or Forum at Garmin can you find how this map switching is done. You have to write or call Support. I'm only glad I got this new unit at more than 60% of list - otherwise I would have returned it the next day. That reminds me, it came with no many bugs it required a week's worth of downloads to work some of them out. I agree with other user's comments: the pronunciations are horrible - even for USA names. The unit has pathetic battery life. The accuracy even in a major metro area (Dallas, TX) is +/- 100' and little known problem: specific locations or addresses in all the maps are not based on Garmin or NAVTEQ actually verifying the data, but as Garmin wrote to me, are based on names and addresses supplied by the local Chamber of Commerce - for which Garmin/NAVTEQ pays a fee. If the business, for example, does not belong to the Chamber, it is not listed in the "name" search. That is why, for example, if there are 20 IHOP pancake houses in your city and only 10 belong to a Chamber, the other 10 are "invisible" and to find them, you already had to use a phone book or Google and then put in the entire address string to get directions. The unit is also very slow to load and acquire satellites - even here in Texas - and the fact that I have no POIs or other customizations loaded. The performance of this unit reminds me of M$ Vista...NOT!

WORKED A DREAM UNTIL I CONNECTED IT TO PC
Pros: worked like a dream until.... Cons: it inexplicably died
I purchased my Nuvi 775T last year and used it in the UK, Portugal and USA. It worked perfectly and I was really impressed. I recently decided to purchase additional maps and so finally got round to registering the product. I followed the prompts to update the software first. It failed partway through (48% complete then a page full of error messages) and now the device is completely dead (not switching on and 'device not found' message from the Garmin website). I have had no help yet from support (requested 2 days ago). Getting really depressed about how much money I have wasted. The above comments are all in relation to Garmin and my 775T and nothing to do with GPS City.

TOUCH SCREEN IS AWFUL!
Cons: touch-screen glitches
I've owned this GPS for about 6 months now and almost every time I input a new address or touch the screen for any reason, it thinks I am touching something else. Like when I want to type in a space, it types the letter P, or when I choose a previously entered address on the top of the screen, it thinks I wanted to choose the one from the bottom of the screen — extremely frustrating. The only reason I didn't return it was because I knew I would be without a GPS for at least 3 weeks. My next GPS will NOT (!) be a Garmin one!
[Ed. note: I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you are having with your unit. However, there is a quick fix that should take care of your problems. You can calibrate the touch screen. To do this, please follow these instructions.
Press and hold the screen in the center and VERY quickly slide the power key on and then quickly back to the lock position. You should already be in the lock position by the time the Garmin Logo appears. You will know if you’ve done it right if the messages at the bottom of the screen do not come up. Wait about 30-40 seconds and you will get into the calibration mode. Keep your finger pressed on the screen the entire time.
This should take care of your problems. Thank you Rob!]

FM SIGNAL NOT STRONG ENOUGH.
Pros: i like the custom route feature. Cons: short battery life when not plugged in.
Our 755T is satisfactory or excellent in many ways but to listen thru the radio (for music or audio books) it falls way short. Adjacent FM channels cause interference and it requires almost constant changing of channels. My solution was to buy a mini-jack to cassette adaptor. This affords great quality and doesn't require changing FM stations. Loading custom POI's greatly delays showing of maps at power up.

ITALY GPS NOT SO GOOD
Pros: small, good screen visibility Cons: poor in italy!
The Nuvi 775t has some advantages over older models but using it in Italy recently was frustrating. It often takes the longer and much more complicated route. We were taken down roads too small for a mid size car while travelling from Rome to Positano....run through a town when there was absolutely no need to leave the main roads. It is easily confused in hillside roads with cutbacks and turns and was often "lost" making our trip very confusing at times. The roads in Italy are difficult to navigate at the best of times, but the NUVI seemed to make it even worse....and all this with the latest Europe maps loaded the day before we left home last month. To top it off, the voice support cannot pronounce Italian street names even close to their proper pronunciation making it virtually useless. It has trouble finding the satellite more than my older model!! In all, best to wait for the next version!!

DEFECTIVE PRODUCT
Cons: irresponsible reseller and manufacturer
The Garmin 775T IMMEDIATELY failed to work and I was forced to return it. Rather than replace the defective product immediately, I had to await its 2 week repair at Garmin. GPS City was not involved at all and only acted as a reseller. I would have expected Garmin to actually stand behind its product and not rely expect the consumer to do all the work for their defective product. This is a known problem with the 775T and is all over the Garmin site, so buyer beware.

BEST EXAMPLE OF NON PERFORMANCE
Pros: good potential Cons: reliability
The GPS that I bought is defective and will have to be fixed or replaced. I find that the process required to fix something much more complex a than the actual purchase of the product. I will be without the GPS for up to a month, if all goes well. For a recent purchase such as this I would have expected an immediate replacement through GPS City rather than have to deal with third party.

A DEFINITE STEP UP FROM PREVIOUS MODEL
Pros: lane assist! Cons: garmin's map update policy!!!!
This is my 4th Garmin GPS, and it replaces a Nuvi 770 (which my wife now uses - prior to that I had Nuvi 650 and 350). Each newer model improved upon the previous one, and the 775T is no exception.
I have now used it for about a month, including taking it to Saskatchewan and using it in a rental car to navigate into a pretty empty area, and it has worked flawlessly.
The traffic receiver has done its job the one time I navigated into Toronto (there is no reception where I live) and got me around some jams. I appreciate the "free" model over the annual subscription, and I have yet to see an ad - maybe I don't stop long enough at intersections!
Usability is good, as always the interface has had some subtle changes that make it easier to use appreciated is the ability to label Favourites with self-defined categories, reducing the number of items to be searched through. Less appreciated is the fact there seems to be no way to make this feature work with Mapsource - I have sent an inquiry to Garmin, but so far no reply, in over 10 days.
The text-to-speech algorithm seems to have, finally, fixed one of the more amusing "glitches" in previous versions eg. "Smith Dr. West" would be announced as "Smith Doctor West" - it now is correctly pronounced as "Smith Drive West."
The ability to choose the information displayed is also appreciated given that most cars have clocks, the fixed time of day display in previous versions (when not navigating) was less than useful - while strictly a novelty, I now use the "elevation" display which at least lets me rationalize why my Camry Hybrid gets poorer gas milage coming home from Toronto over going in - I am climbing a slow but definite hill. The choice when navigating that I am using - time-to- arrival - is marginally more useful than the previous time-of-arrival.
A major improvement is the turn-lane (lane assist) indicator when navigating. It is very helpful to know that the up-coming "keep left" on a major highway means keep in the three left-most lanes, rather than the two right-most etc..
One feature that I wish Garmin had, but seems to not want to add, is a "Shut-up for xx minutes" button. Sometimes, I know best - the navigation algorithm wants me to go a certain route, but I know that there is a better way, because I know local conditions - construction, bad roads, whatever - and it is very annoying to have to continually hear "Recalculating ..." which, even though it isn't, after a while sounds like nagging. Using the "Detour" function is no improvement, as it still tries to get you back to the "best" route as quickly as possible.
One major, major complaint this is a two map unit (North America and Europe). When purchased, both of the loaded maps were out-of-date - newer versions were available, dated prior to my purchase. And yet, despite that the price of the unit reflects the cost of two maps (compare the 775T - $760, to the 755T - $450, functionally identical except for some extra memory to store the extra map)it is somewhat chintzy of Garmin to apply their map update policy strictly to this unit - one free map update per unit. Since I paid for two maps, I should get two up-to-date maps! Even more galling is the up-date page to which you are directed when updating. It offers a choice of either of the two updates, North America and Europe, and it is only after choosing North America and updating, then going to update Europe for real $$$s, that you discover that the Europe update is almost twice the cost of the North America update. The costs of each should really be made clear. As I wrote, it is chintzy of Garmin to sell a unit with two maps, and charge for making one of those maps current. If they are going to sell units with maps that are out of date at the time of sale, the least they could do is update all the maps loaded. They charge enough for maps to begin with, there is no need to charge twice for one of them!
But still, this is a good unit, with minor flaws that may be personal to me - highly recommended. but, if you buy it, it is presumably because you need the Europe maps be sure to apply the one free map update to that map, and be prepared to spend another $70 to update your North America maps.

NUVI 775T
Pros: easy to read map, finds satalite quickly Cons: small communites shopping/directions not accurate
My first GPS system so I'm not able to compare. Works well. Easy to use. I like the voice feature. Directions not always accurate, tells you to make a turn where no turn exists. Shopping areas, gas stations, etc. not always the closest. You can see a gas station in a small community from your car but it tells you the closest gas station by that company is 100 km away in another community.
