THIS IS MY FIRST AUTOMOBILE GPS
Pros: all pro's so far. Cons: other than the price, none encountered yet.
I've no experience to compare this unit to however, I'm very happy with it so far.
The touch screen is very responsive - I understand earlier touch screen models weren't really 'touch' screen - more like 'press and hold' screen. This one is more like the I- Pod screen that most people are accustomed to.
The start-up was easy - I'm no computer dummy, but the instructions were easy to follow even for a beginner. Patience is required during the downloading process as there are long periods with no apparent activity, but my initial download and registration were over in just under 35 minutes.
On-screen instructions are intuitive and easy to follow. The maps are brilliant with just enough detail to assist the driver. The unit's voice directions are good, although sometimes the final 'turn' direction comes barely in time due to GPS/satellite lag. Having said that, the 'warning' directions give plenty of room to prepare for one's next manoeuver.
Some of the 'voices' seem clearer to me than others, that probably varies with the individual. The 'automatic' volume adjustment that reads and overcomes background noise level is very good.
I am still leasrning the more advanced features, and I haven't experimented with voice commands yet because I haven't needed them. The Bluetooth 'hands free' mobile phone connection is ridiculously easy to configure and use.
On the Pacific Coast we get rain (go figure), and when it is raining heavily at night, street name signs would have to be the size of billboards to be visible (and I'm not having any luck with city councils in that area). In addition to that, I'm not getting any younger - so it was a real chore for me to go to an unfamiliar address on a rainy night. Now I just turn 'nuvi' on and relax, allowing me to concentrate on my defensive driving.
Garmin, you've made an old guy a happy driver again!

ALMOST PERFECT
Pros: amazing screen, high-res and responsive Cons: voice command is not perfect, needs more map detail
The screen is great! Would be perfect if it had higher road detail when zoomed out past 1.2km scale in non-3D mode. A few more customizable features would be great, too. Voice Command is very cool, would be nice if it controlled more features (zoom in/out, Trip Computer, etc).

NUVI 3590
Pros: size, memory capacity, touch screen Cons: no mapsource support - uses base camp
This unit replaced my 1490. The new unit is thinner with an improved touch screen. It also has enough memory to hold the entire map data base. All the functionality that I have tried works well. The user interface has been tweaked for the better. One caveat, Mapsource will not recognize the unit. You have to use Base Camp.

BEST GPS I'VE GOT
Pros: screen size & display Cons: traffic info has to be connected to the charger
The voice recognition is very useful. And the display is very crisp & clear. This is my 1st Garmin. We had Tom Tom before. I would recommend this Garmin for the screen size & the crisp clear display. The eco route module is the next I am planning to get.

THE BEST GARMIN YET.
Pros: super responsive, improved interface Cons: no cyclops support, a few absent features
I bought this newest Garmin to replace a NUVI 765 that I've now passed onto my son. I tried the NUVI 3790 last year, but I returned that item and kept my 765 due to a few issues that made the up-grade not really worth it.
This newest Garmin is a keeper. A few very minor issues were quickly resolved through Garmin Tech Support and I've now had a few weeks to play with this one.
The large 5" screen is superb and wonderfully responsive. Voice activation seems improved over the 3790 and the new interface is a big improvement over the previous generations. Recalculation is very fast and I like the absence of the repetitive “Recalculating” message that I’ve always found annoying. Satellite acquisition time seems improved as well. myTrends still operates a bit flakey, so it would be nice if they would iron out the bugs or redesign this feature. I find the vehicle icon tends to ‘jump’ and not move as smoothly on the map when driving which I’m hoping will be fixed on an up-date.
ecoRoute should be included, not an extra cost item on this top-of-the-line model, and it’s odd that this unit is not compatible with the Garmin Cyclops Traffic cam subscriptions. The manual also mentions one of the ‘Apps’ being a Video Player, but I don’t see it on mine. It would be nice to be able to load on and view a short video on this unit, the same as doing a slideshow is useful.
Regardless, being a long-time user of Garmin (and previous owner of TomTom & Magellan), this newest Garmin is the best PND yet. And GPSCity has been great company to deal with! Good communication, and the order was shipped very promptly.

WORKS REALLY NICELY
Pros: none Cons: none
Occasionally the voice recognition feature stops working, but i've found it easy to get back up and running. The nu-link (smart phone) integration works very well. I can't really complain about anything.

GOOD GPS
If you are still using an older Nuvi it's time to upgrade. I have been using a 660 model since '07. The difference is night and day. Am still not used to its larger size - the screen is glass vs the "soft" screen I was used to. Nice features.

WELL DESIGNED & BUILT GPS. WORTH EVERY PENNY.
Pros: size, poi alerts, voice recognition, smart. Cons: none
Bought it to replace a Nuvi 880. The 3590 is exactly what I hoped it would be. All features not only work, they work very well. Hope it is built to last, since I won't drive without it on. Hope I can load marine maps if Garmin ever makes them for MB.

BEST GARMIN DEVICE SO FAR
Pros: good screen resolution. beautiful graphics. fast. Cons: screen is difficult to read in big sunny day.
Screen have a very good resolution, functions are almost perfect. Very snappy interface. Capacitive touchscreen is a major step in control. Can have personalized dock, that is very good. I was tired of the old plain dull garmin dock.
