NICE FOR THE CAR / NOT AS GOOD FOR PEDESTRIAN
Pros: thin, portable - good display, sound, bluetooth Cons: some linkage issues, not too bad
I bought this GPS before a trip to England. I liked the idea of an "enhanced pedestrian mode". London has lots of opportunity to utilize the feature. I even downloaded the City Xplorer for the experience. It worked OK, but in many places in London it would not pick up a signal. I don't know if it was all the buildings ... but isn't that the whole idea of having a pedestrian mode? Outside that, I like the unit. The satellite link worked fine it the car. It is clear to see, the voices are fairly easy to understand, and even the Bluetooth sounds OK to the people I tested it with. One note - I bought the leather slip case to go with it, but it is too tight for the product. It may loosen over tme, but not so far. I don't know what alternatives there are, though...

BUYER BEWARE!
Pros: all the features Cons: all the bugs
Notice all the reviews that say, "the screen seized...", "I had to reboot...", "it froze..." uh-huh! I've had two 1390t's in the past 10 weeks. Both of them have had their issues. The first one worked great... until it didn't! Wouldn't turn off after 3 weeks. Once I finally got it to turn off, it wouldn't turn back on again - no matter what I did and no matter how many times I waited 30/40 min for a Garmin Customer Service Rep. RIDICULOUS Customer Service! Sent that one back and ordered another. After 6 weeks, this second one is going back, too. The volume goes in and out... as in, doesn't work sometimes and then works other times. After reading many reviews on many websites, there is a definite pattern. Great features, but not spending $200 on something that isn't great all the time! I'm contemplating a Magellan or TomTom at this point. Very disappointed in Garmin.

USEFUL DEVICE
Pros: has everthing i need in an automobile gps Cons: screen seizing (once so far)
If there was a 4.5 rating I'd give it that instead of 5 because after about two weeks of use the screen seized. I thought I would have to return the item but soon found that by pressing and holding the power button for several seconds, it finally turned off and has been working fine since powering it up again. However, I now have a lurking feeling that it may seize at any moment.
Otherwise, it has been a very useful navigation aid. On major highways it has a voice warning of traffic congestion ahead. It's very accurate and very easy to use.
I bought it mainly for hands-free phone calling while driving but have really come to rely on it for navigation. Perfect for real estate agents.

INTERESTING DEVICE, BUT HAS LOTS OF BUGS.
Pros: nice visibility, touchscreen and form factor. Cons: so much buggy, and has some translation issues.
It would be a good GPS receiver unit if it didn't had such a quantity of bugs in its software. I even had to return one due to the fact that it stopped booting up (and nothing I had tried made any effect, at all).

GARMIN NUVI 1390T
Pros: lifetime traffic updates, day/night auto function. Cons: shutdown once but has been fine since, no regrets.
This GPS works well for the most part, The first time I used the Nuvi we took a trip to Montreal, well it was scorching hot, we parked for a while (sight seeing) when I got back to the van the Nuvi would not come on, It felt a bit warm so I held it to the air-con for a while as we were driving and after about 10 minutes it come back on... I nearly freaked, other than that it has worked fine, I think that it might have shutdown as part of a fail-safe feature but not sure on this, I had a Tom-Tom ONE XL prior to the 1390T, the Tom-Tom worked nicely but since this was my first GPS I had nothing to compare it to, with the Nuvi 1390T, I found that the GPS updates were more accurate, I like the auto function for the day-night display color change, I like it when I'm approaching a split on the motorway it displays a picture of the actual split, the blue-tooth is okay, when calling from my phone the talk path dynamically comes through the Nuvi, It sounds distorted even though its not loud (I don't think its volume related because with the volume turned all the way up for the voice prompts it sounds fine), I found that the calling / called party could hear me fine which tells me the mic functionality and echo cancellation worked nicely but in the vehicle the Nuvi speaker for blue-tooth calls was bad, I have to play around with it a but more to see if there's a way to minimize the distortion... other than that it works fine, fits into a shirt or pants pocket nicely, the shutdown is faster than on the Tom-Tom and gives you the option of locking the display or full power down... speed and traffic updates are very accurate, when activating the additional functionality in maps it minimizes the map view but provides useful information pertaining to your trip i.e. arrival time, km to destination, traffic ahead, etc. all in all a nice product.

PASS ON THIS ONE !!
Cons: doesn't work for more than 24 hours, won't reboot.
Ordered this unit on two seperate occasions to use with the eco route hd module. In both cases it froze within 24 hours and could not be rebooted. Garmin support had no answers and I was told to send it back. Keeping my older 250W for now. May work without the eco route hd connected but that's not why I bought it.

TOP VALUE GPS
Pros: very accurate and easy to read in bright sunlight. Cons: none of significance.
Does everything perfectly and as advertised. Look no further this is the best value for the money $185.99 CND. Very intuitive and easy to use both GPS and Hands free. Nice compact size, very slim in the pocket. Perfect pedestrian navigator as well. Like Amex, don't leave home without it.

OPTIMAL AUTOMOTIVE GPS MUSINGS
Pros: lane assist is desirable bluetooth is a plus. Cons: nothing unusual for this type of device.
After initially dismissing GPS units as a redundant fad I had the opportunity about a year ago to use one such unit that was included with a car rental. The ease of motoring around an unfamiliar city, locating the shopping/museum/arena sites not to mention restaurants/gas stations and hotels quickly converted me to a fan of electronic navigation. In my usual OC manner I researched the available units (with an admitted bias towards the Garmin units which I had initially encountered) and despite the seemingly excessive number of model lines and feature variations available, I identified the unit that best fit my needs, the Garmin 765T. I needed...wanted?... mp3 player capacity along with Bluetooth and the "lane assist" feature, and an FM transmitter as well to play everything through the car radio speaker system (however the T Traffic feature and the junction view capability, which are included in the 765T, are not particularly useful here in a largely rural setting... or many other locales from what I understand). I have been immensely satisfied with that unit over the past 8 months. Recently I had need to purchase two gifts for relatives and, now a GPS fanatic, could think of no better item than this miraculous device. Beyond navigation functions, the additional needs of these individuals were primarily limited to the Bluetooth function and the indispensable (based on my experience) "lane assist" feature. Using this criteria, the Garmin model 1390T represented the optimal choice this time.
Next, if there is anything I find more enjoyable than a new tech toy it is getting that item at... a fair value (insert rising crescendo of bagpipe music at this point). I spent considerable effort scanning the prices associated with the model I had targeted and, after some time, had found the GPSCity website which represented the best value available for this product. Initially I was a little concerned in dealing with an organization that was not one of the major online marketers which I had previously dealt with. However, again after some additional research on this retailer, I found both their consumer record and independent reviews to be remarkably positive. Thus, to make a long story (slightly) shorter I took a leap of faith and ordered 2 Garmin 1390T units from GPS city. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they fully honored their claim of pricing the shipping (usually a deal breaker at other sites!) at the value of the actual cost incurred. The units arrived promptly (in less time than initially cited) and in perfect condition. I could not have had a better experience in dealing with an online retailer.
Lastly, but not leastly, the units themselves have been performing as anticipated. While I have only had the chance to use them when they were initially presented (at that time I could provide reams of unsolicited advice ...undoubtedly welcomed by all) neither recipient has indicated any problems with these devices.
Overall: A GPS unit is helpful tool which more than just replaces maps/phonebooks/local guides on forays into unfamiliar territory. But it is essential that you do your homework to determine which features are important to you. Then buy the model that meets these needs, don't purchase features that you don't require.(Words to live by..so why am I now fixating on the iPad?) If possible, you may want to consider trying a few different rental units to evaluate the performance and features of the various models available.
With respect to GPS City, the vendor has a straight forward easy to use site and delivers on what is promised ( prompt delivery, no "gouging" on delivery costs and competitive pricing).
I rarely write to review sites (good thing eh?), although I do rely on them heavily, however I did want to take this opportunity to express my thoughts on this experience which I found quite pleasant. Hopefully there is a comment or two here which is helpful to others contemplating a GPS purchase.

BLUE TOOTH PROBLEM
Pros: great device Cons: bluetooth disconnection, short battery life
The GPS is a great device, I would like to see it have more battery life time. When connected to a blue tooth cell phone it keeps disconnecting and I have not tried to contact Garmin to try to fix the problem otherwise i love my Garmin GPS.

VERY FRIENDLY BUT...
Pros: beautiful wide screen Cons: got stuck
I got this one for my car, as I was using my 60CSX before, with a small screen and no voice to give directions. This one is great, easy and reliable. Only problem was when I turned it on in a large indoor parking lot, it went nuts, got stuck on its first screen, loading maps. Try to swicth it off but was stuck, after a wile was able to switch off and back on but got the same. After leaving the building, miles down the road, my wife was able to again swith it off and turn it on this time all OK. I guess the sotware does not reconize the possibility of zero satellite signal.

GREAT GPS
Pros: fast processor, easy to use, volume at 50% is fine Cons: speaker weak. no battery level using power cord
After using this GPS for 3 weeks and 2000 miles in New Hampshire and Vermont I am very happy with it. It has a very fast processor and is very easy to use. Make sure you upgrade the firmware and map to the 2010 update. You will need to down load the PDF manual from Garmin. I suggest reading gpsmagazine.com review to learn of its full capabilities.

GREAT FEATURES, SOME ISSUES
Pros: solid feature set Cons: voice issues
This is a great GPS, with a very good feature set. The built-in traffic receiver alerts of slow downs and 'bad spots' on the road. The ecoroute feature allows for 'fuel-optimized' routing, and the voice prompts are clear and precise - IF THEY WORK.
Not certain if it's the unit hardware, or the software, but the voice is scrambled about 25% of the time. Shut-down & restart typically fix the issue. If it wasn't for this, I would have ranked the unit a 4-5 and recommended it.

GARMIN NUVI 1390T
Pros: very good overall Cons: free updates for only 6 weeks
This is my 4rd Garmin and all have been purchased from GPS City. Excellent response and delivery. This is by far the best so far the 765T that I had the bluetooth di not work at all on this one it's verry good and the added features of showing in the top left the distance to next turn with an arrow allows for advance lane changes. I find the screen is more responsive and more accurate than my previous model. The lane change arrow as advertised does not seem to work for me in Canada, but will be heading to the USA in the near future and will test it there. Maps are very current. Overall an excellent unit and a must for me as I am a Home Inspector and would be lost without it.
