GARMIN GTM 20 FM TMC

Pros: works with most garmin gps units.
Cons: no traffic avoidance suggestions.

I live in an area that supports this receiver. I also have the Microsoft receiver (Garmin Nuvi 665)which is end their service this 1 Jan 2012. This receiver works every bit as well as the purpose system.

TORONTO AREA GTM 20 FM TMC TRAFFIC VS MSN TRAFFIC

Pros: 85 percent accurate for traffic reports
Cons: it sticks a bit out from the cigarette holder

the gtm 20 fm tmc traffic receiveer in Toronto is by far more accurate than the MSN traffic for current traffic reports. 85 percent accuracy when it comes to saying there is a traffic slowdown. at a specific area along the 401. the closer you get to burlington along the qew it starts not having any signal but once you move onto Hamilton area it picks back up. the MSN while it gives you the news and weather reports it does a poor job of traffic updates in the Toronto area. for me it was money well spent to change over the the GTM 20 fm tmc traffic receiver. the Lifetime update was a bonus as well. I hate hidden costs.

TRAFFIC RECEIVER

Pros: none
Cons: doesn't work.

Great idea but unfortunately doesn't work. Drove from Houston to Daytona Beach to Key West and back to Houston and not once did it indicate a traffic problem or construction despite repeated backups.

WORKS SOMETIMES... SOMETIMES NOT....

Pros: nice when it works.
Cons: not reliable in phoenix az.

Here in Phoenix Arizona Traffic updates via my Garmin 760 are sporadic at best.

To top it off the little plastic ring at the very end of the piece that plugs into the cigarette lighter broke off. Seems not very well constructed. Impossible to repair. Must be replaced with a new unit.

TRAFFIC NETWORK RECEIVER

Pros: very reliable if signals are present.
Cons: none

Works as promised. There s only one caveat. The unit is sold as a Receiver with a lifetime subscription. Problem is: There are two providers for Traffic Info, namely Navteq and Clear Channel. This is no secret but not very obvious until you get the unit, by then it could be that you are not covered by Navteq ie West Coast. In such case you have to buy a Lifetime subscription with Clear Channel for 60 Canadian Pesos. When all is said and done, you paid for a Lifetime subscription with the unit and have to buy another one because you are in an area that is not covered by the original offer. Buyer beware!
