HARD TO BEAT!
Pros: versatility to customize features, simple controls Cons: must take up sky-diving to fully benefit
Bought 2 of these a few months back for my self and a hunting partner who is absolutely tech-useless. I set his up for him with topo maps, re-ordered some pages and showed him how to track and back-track, save tracks & routes. He loved it and promptly placed it on the fender of his jeep to run in the house to get someting for his wife. Returned, and left in the jeep to go boating. Yep! left it on the fender and lost it. This one is a re-order as he has now been spoiled by the 60CSx. A bit of time required to customize setup and familiarize oneself with functions, but beautiful and powerful little machine.

EXCELLENT MAPPING GPS
I just purchased the 60csx a few weeks ago and am still in a learning mode. I went on a week long wilderness canoe trip involving travel on a very complex and confusing lake and river system. The 60csx together with Topo Canada cd maps were instrumental in keeping me on track. Two minor issues that were resolved on the trip:
1) Topo Canada maps kept "disappearing" from the gps memory, leaving only the built-in basemap. Turns out that the micro SD card had come loose and was not being read by the GPS. Was a huge relief to diagnose and correct this problem. 2) Compass became messsed up somehow with direction of travel no longer showing as the "up" direction on the display. Solution was to recalibrate the compass in the field. Everything appeared and worked fine following this procedure.
All in all I am very pleased with this GPS and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

GREAT GPS BUT MISSING A FEW THINGS.
Pros: antenna very strong. Cons: no lock button
This GPS is great, For an infanteer serving in the Canadian Army overseas in Afghanistan its priceless. The quick start up time and the powerful antenna will continue to track even inside heavily armoured vehicles. It is easy to navigate and is still small enough to fit in a pouch. The 2 biggest cons of this GPS is there is no "lock" Button. While doing dismounted patrols the GPS is on and in a pouch, during a 5 hour patrol I check my LOCSTAT on my GPS and find I have registered about 300 waypoints. This occurs just from lying on your stomach or leaning against a wall. This happens almost everyday and its a pain in the butt to delete all the useless way points after the patrol. A simple LOCK button would solve this problem. The 2nd con is that I have not found out if the compass is capable of displaying in MILLS. I can change the heading to mills but have yet to find if I can have the compass in MILLS. Besides those to problems it is a great product!

JUST AN INCREDIBLE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT.
Pros: easy to use. Cons: the cost of topo maps sold separately.
If your a hunter, fisher(person) or just an out-door enthusiest, this piece of equipment ranks right up there with your Guns, Fishing rods/Reels or Hiking boots. It WILL get you there and back safe and sound. It's fast accurate and easy to use. I did have an "Eagle Accunav" a few years ago and could lose the satellites just standing next to a tree, they have come a long way.

EXTREMELY ACCURATE
Pros: easy use and speed of satellite aquisition Cons: small screen
I have never before used a field GPS. I find it easy to use, of course some hours of practice are required as with any multi-function electronic piece of kit. It brought me within feet of the geocaches I searched for. The military issues the same GPS to its liason officers who are on standby for civil defense/support.

GPS FOR SEARCH AND RESCUE
Pros: reception, can upload custom maps
Our Search and Rescue Team (Coquitlam Search and Rescue from British Columbia) has purchased 20 of these units over the past three years. In addition, several members have purchased their own for personal use. In that time we have had to return one unit which was dead on arrival (screen was bad). This was replaced with no hassle by the dealer.
In our experience, these units are easy to use, work well in all conditions (winter, summer, and in the rain) and offer exceptional reception in very difficult terrain and weather (torrential rain, blizzard, tree canopy, deep ravines and canyons).
One notable exception was a fall hike during downpour when reception was very bad. the signal from the satellite is attenuated by water, and my friend's GPS units did not fare any better than the 60Csx.
The battery life is very good. We turn off the electronic compass and use a manual compass instead.
Finally, through the use of open source software the team has managed to produce our own maps of or service area to upload trails, waypoints and other details of the local area. This has made these units invaluable to us when we are searching for lost subjects.

SUPER HIGH-SENSITIVITY OUTDOOR GPS
Pros: waterproof, sensitivity, rapid readings, price Cons: no map of borneo on board :)
I've used this model before in the woods, in Borneo, and am very impressed by it's ability to get readings quickly even under a 40 m canopy-- enough impressed to by another unit. The unit reports accuracies within 3 m, even in dense forest for us, this is outstanding. Comes with software for downloading waypoints, which is a major help. Waterproof is invaluable

Cons: cd manuel would be nice
The unit is great, just wish the basic preloaded map had a little more detail, it kind of forces you to purchase the north America nt map for increased detail for street use. On a recent trip the unit locked up on me and had to remove the batteries and reinstall them to get the unit too restart after that no problems.

Great satellite reception, rugged, and versatile. Taking waypooints and recoding tracks is straightforward. Screen interface improves over earlier Garmin units. Accepts Garmin Topo maps (about 1:100,000 scale)- these are very useful in the field. Anxiously awaiting 1:24,000 scale topos.

The 60CSx sells itself. Excellent features and very easy to configure with user-friendly menus. Expected display to be a bit small but is very nice size. GREAT GPS
Cons: no alarm clock
This is a great GPS. I had a 60cs before. The 60csx acquires satellites a lot quicker, and stays locked on even inside. The 2gig allows me to put on all of my city nav and half of my topo Can. The only disappointment is that it does not have an alarm clock like the 60cs did. Dealing with GPS City was a good experience.

DARNSOCKS REVIEW
I have had my 60CSx for a few months now and generally find it a good unit. Like with every Garmin unit there are the good and the not so good features. My husband and I have three different GPSrs and appreciate all of them and know their limitations. I find the manufacturers frustrating in that instead of continually improving their units, they put out another model with completely different features, not necessarily taking the good of the past making the ultimate unit.

EXCELLENT UNIT - DELIVERS AS PROMISED
I bought the 60CSx with the 2GB card (City Navigator 2009) and am quite satisfied with my purchase. GPS City was easy to deal with and cheaper than Walmart!
I bought the unit primarily for mapping local XC ski, snowshoe, mountain biking & hiking trails. I also use it for cyclocross rides and as a vehicle GPS. This unit has excellent satellite reception. I've carried in a backpack in heavy rain through shallow (50 ft) tree covered canyons and it maintained reception. A friend has the Etrex and she loses signal or has 2-3 sats when I have 6-8 sats. If you want a GPS for use in heavy coverage this one works great.
I also use this as a navigation GPS in my cars. Reception is great. Screen is obviously a bit smaller than dedicated car GPS's but is legible and large enough to read while driving. Typing in POI's is a bit of a PITA compared with a touchscreen, but I also wanted a more rugged, waterproof unit that I can use on a bike, car, boat, etc. The 60CSx does all that.
I recommend this unit and am looking forward to getting the TOPO and Water maps for it.
Cheers,

I currently own a Garmin 376 C, GPS 12, map76s and have recently purchased a 60Cxs. The 60Cxs lives up to the reputation I come to expect in a GPS. I use these units in my truck , mounted on my quad and in my pack on forest fires, and scouting northern Alberta for the oil and gas sector. The 60Csx seems a little more rugged and uses natural light to help view the display (saves battery).I would recommend this unit.

If speed, crown closure or atmospherics are a concern to you...Go 60CS. The barometer, altimeter functionality is great for me (Forester). Casual users can do without this feature.
