GREAT GPS
Pros: light, waterproof, fast and inexpensive Cons: small screen. 21 inch lcd would be better :p
I loaded this baby with all my province toponav cards and it works great. I use it on an atv with a ram mount I got with it and its fast and accurate. Only problem I have is when I ordered I was not refered to the canadian store I didnt know existed. Which ended in paying about 70$ more for my order since I had to pay for customs. The same order in canada would have cost about 70$ less. But im so happy with the gps that I dont mind that to much. If you are to use with an ATV or moto cycle or even your bike, then you need the ram mount that has a u bolt. http://www.gpscity.com/ram-mount-gpsmap-60c-series-stainless-steel-u-bolt-mount.html
This mount is very easy to setup and hold the gps in place with no worries.

RUGGED DUAL SPORT MOTORCYCLE GPS
Pros: comes highly recommended from forums Cons: none for me
I am very happy to have bought this model of GPS.I found it very easy to use. I have used it for mountain biking, hiking, geocaching, and riding a motorbike backroads and offroad. First trip convinced me what a great unit this was, I would have taken so many wrong turns without it. It has been neat to view my routes on GoogleEarth afterwards.

Pros: excellent signal reception & quick location fixing Cons: next day am shipping was really 1 week!

GREAT GPS FOR BIKE TRIPS
Pros: robust and accurate Cons: auto-routing calculation may freeze
I bought the GPSMAP 60CSx for a bike trip in the Netherlands. The menu is intuitive enough for a quick learning curve. The MapSource software is also great for loading/merging maps and defining points-of-interest. The track log feature of the GPS allows to periodically save the position to memory and upload the data to MapSource for viewing the path later. The compass helps to navigate at low speed (e.g. when walking) and is easy to calibrate.
As for the performances, cold acquisition time is short and under a minute. Accuracy is incredible and often indicated as within ±3m on clear sky and flat lands.
The only problem I had was that the auto-routing feature was freezing (or endlessly calculating) when trying to find a route longer than 30km in the Netherlands, even in the quickest mode. This may be caused by the high road density there. I do not have that problem in Canada.

GREAT OUTDOOR GPS
Pros: ease of use, quick satellite locator Cons: base map sucks
I bought this after reading a zillion reviews. It is everything I need in a gps for hiking and back packing. I live in Virginia in the Blue Ridge mountains. This unit recieves well under the dense canopy I have encountered. It tracks well. The learning curve is very small. I didn't think it was going to be at first. A couple hikes with it and I pretty much have it down. Couldn't be happier. GPSCity is the place to shop.

BEST GPS FOR GEOCACHING AND MORE!
Great GPS. I really like the user interface, it was a short learning curve.I get great reception even in heavy foliage. The backlit display is very bright and battery life is quite good. My only negative about this device is the base map is terrible and hasn't been upgraded in over 5 years. Search online for better maps.

GREAT GPS FOR MULTIPLE OUTDOOR USES.
Pros: simple, great reception, moto friendly controls Cons: i got a papercut opening up the box too excitedly.
I have been using my GPSmap 60CSx for a month after replacing my Garmin Summit HC. I have been using it for motorcycle navigation and a canoe trip as well. The 60SCx is awesome and a great upgrade from my little Summit HC. Its reception is great, even in dense forest, and has been the perfect device for my motorcycle rides around Vancouver Island BC and its many kilometers of trials and logging roads. This unit was the highest recommended GPS on ADVrider.com which helped me decide what unit to choose. Even on regular city roads the turn by turn directions works as good as the fancy pants navigation system in my Toyota Tundra. I also purchased the 12V bare wire power supply and wired it up to the bike and mounted the unit with RAM mounts, and it works like a dream. Bottom Line: If you want a GPS for your Adventure Rides this is the one to use, and the service is great at GPSCity.ca. I had a small issue with my old GPS and the great folks at GPSCity.ca where quick to make it right and keep me moving along the trails.

60CSX REVIEW
Pros: battery life Cons: may need some simplification or better instruction
Just starting to get the hang of the unit after using Magellan Explorist 500LE's. Harder to figure out than the Magellan, but way better on batteries. Magellan uses 3 AAA batteries and lasts maybe 6-8 hours while the 60CSX lasts about 20 hours on 2 AA batteres. The 60csx is also a lot bigger but it isn't large enough to really be a problem.

GPSMAP 60CSX
Pros: long battery life, clear screen, simple operation. Cons: consider including one fitted screen protector.
Great little GPS at an affordable price. Picks up satellites very quickly allowing you to go to work in seconds. Continues to work under full tree canopy making it an ideal forestry tool. The ability to upload shapefiles (as tracks) or to add image files as a background layer is a big selling point. Compact design allows you to always have it along.

GREAT PIECE OF KIT
Pros: ease of use, picks up satellites easily Cons: price of map downloads, road routing accuracy
This is a great little unit I bought primarily for use hiking and on my ATV. The RAM handlebar mount is also quite good. I was up and using the GPS in a matter of minutes. Only downsides I've found is the base map included with the unit is basically useless and the Topo Canada is quite pricey for what it is. The 60CSx has worked great for me in the woods but the road routing accuracy is not the best. Also, make sure the map you are buying is compatible with your computer's operating system or you will not be able to interface the GPS with your PC.

Pros: user friendly Cons: base mapping is not great
Have not had an opportunity to really use the GPS unit in the field but I like what I've seen so far. I'm an angler and hunter and wanted a portable handheld that was easy to use in any weather. The screen is larger than most and the operating buttons are very obvious making them more user friendly for a guy with big hands. The overall size of the unit feels good as well. If you're the type who prefers a compact to a mini digital camera you'll understand. The functionality of the GPSMAP 60CSx is awesome.

TRIED AND TRUE FOR FORESTRY FIELD WORK
Pros: reception can load large map files easy to use
Our forestry crews have used the GPS Map 60CSx for over four years now. We think it is great. It is has excellent satellite reception and tracks well. We usually get 3-5m ECE for most of the day under heavy forest canopies and in pretty deep valleys. The map screen is great and with an SD card we can load all of our working maps to help us in the field.

GPS FOR OUTDOOR USE
Pros: waterproof, compatible bike mount available. Cons: funtionality is not intuitive,
Read the manual!. Watch the GPS City videos. Ask your friends that have it to demo for you. Repeat 3x.
This GPS has lots of functionality and does everything you need but it is not easy to use and intuitive like the GPS in your car. So, you will have to spend the time to learn how to use it. Some friends of mine who have owned it for years still cannot do simple things like find a particular business by name when bike touring.
It is tough. I have dropped it from 2 - 3 feet high and it did not even scratch it. Battery life with high end batteries is good.

Quite good but disappointing if you are used to using an iFinder. 60CSx has a smaller, less clear screen and menu options are a little less versatile. But, with Lowrance gone and Magellan handhelds also lacking, the 60CSx seems to be a best-buy at the moment.

GMSMAP 60SCX
I haven't used the gps a lot at this time, but when I have used it every thing appears to be in 1D, not 2D or 3D? There is no shading of different types of terrain or elevation . It also isn't showing small creeks in the area where i am hunting ? I don't know if it is the operator or the machine, but not quite what I was expecting. I live in southern Ontario just north of Lake Ontario. It does locate my position quickly and does have many usefull features.
[Ed. note: Doug, the 60Cx does 2D as that is what the overhead view of your position is. As long as there is a L and W, it will be in 2D. The unit also does not support any terrain or elevation shading, this is something added to newer units that have 3D mapping capabilities (the 60CSx does not have nor advertise this capability). Lastly, if you wish to have creeks and terrain details appear you will need to purchase the Canada topo DVD along with a blank memory card to get this detail as most handhelds come without maps and are an optional accessory. I hope this clears it up for you, feel free to search for the additional maps on our site if you would like to get this details. ]

I have owned a couple of eTrex Vistas in the past. The superior technology of this unit suprised me. It is quick to lock onto many satellites. EXCELLENT GPS
Pros: easy to use, great accuracy, battery life Cons: none
I searched high and low and checked other reviews, and I kept coming back to this model. It came highly suggested by two people, a timber surveyor and a federal wildlife biologist. Both said that they have never had a problem getting reception, even with dense forest cover, and I have to agree. I have used it for mapping trails, tree location within a stand, and I'm excited to be able to use it in the spring for guided wildflower hikes (since I don't know my wildflowers I can hike it beforehand and mark the different species on the GPS, the kids will never know the difference!) I am super happy with the 60CSx. It's easy to use and understand. The buttons on the front (instead of the sides like the eTrex) make this unit worth every penny. Love it!

Pros: nice unit for the price. Cons: defective directional keybad button.
This GPS has many useful features and is relatively simple to use. I like the unit for the price. The one I received has a defective directional button (The round center keypad button that is used to navigate through the menu). Sometimes is works, sometimes it doesn't or sometimes it just goes in the wrong direction. GPS City will replace it, but I have to cover the shipping to them and they will ship it back at their expense. Garmin won't cover any shipping on THEIR defective device.

Pros: rugged and waterproof
I am a Map Comittee member of a local ATV club and we provide tracks of our rides for our members. A good number of our members use the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx series GPS units on their ATV's.The unit is rugged, waterproof, receives satellite coverage and tracks well in dense bush, and with the included Garmin Mapsource software, one can transfer tracks, waypoints, and maps back and forth between other similar units. As an avid GPSer, I have recommended this unit to our members that do not have a GPS, want to get into GPSing, but don't know what to buy. Together with the RAM Mount System, that can also be purchased from GPSCity, this is a great setup for any ATV/UTV.

GARMIN 60CSX
Pros: affordable and user friendly Cons: slow to refresh and small display
I use this unit on my atv and is quite good for tracking and plotting runs. It is user friendly as I am fairly new to the gps world. With some trial and error I was able to set up for my purposes easily. I find it a tad slow on refreshing as you are travelling and the display screen is a bit small. All in all I find it a very good unit for the price paid.

EXCELLENT GPS AT GREAT VALUE
Pros: satelite connection
After having my older model Garmin stolen a week before my hunting trip I scrambled to find a replacement. All local retailers appeared to be overpriced and often didn't carry many of the units I was interested in. GPS City not only had this unit for the cheapest in North America, (from my research), but the shipping prices again were reasonable. I was very pleased to receive the unit and found loading the maps a little frustrating but got the hang of it once i cured some bugs in my computer. Overall the unit tracks well from inside my pocket and pack and has really no issues finding satelites in heavy tree cover, much better than my old unit. The battery life was slightly less than advertised but i was also using it in sub zero (celsius) temperatures most of the time. Like my old one, the outer constrution is very robust and i tested it several times accidentally with no damage whatsoever.

STURDY UNIT WORKS WELL
I had the Garmin GPSMAP 76 before this which did not have the barometer or the electronic compass. The battery compartment in the Garmin GPSMAP 76 was not very sturdy and did cause some problems. The battery compartment in the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx is much better designed. Having the barometer gives much more steady and accurate elevation readings with the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx than with the Garmin GPSMAP 76.

Pros: simple to use. very accurate when geocaching. Cons: none

GREAT GEOCACHING GPSR
We spent the past week geocaching with three of the GPSMAP 60CSx units, and found them to be accurate, great under tree cover and very fast at picking up satellites. We also use a Nuvi 550 that carries all the information for the caches, so the combination of that and the 60CSx makes paperless caching easy, and we can find restaurants etc when we're done hiking.

OUTDOOR GPS
Pros: bright screen, easy to read, good signal strength Cons: it would be nice if it were smaller
After owning an eTrex and having used a few Oregon 300s at work, I decided I wanted with mapping but with a brighter screen and larger fonts than the Oregon. The 60 CSx seemed to fit the bill and I have not been disappointed. I use it to map mountain-biking trails with eventual downloading to QGIS for mapping. The screen is bright, easy to read, and it is very good at retaining the satellite signals. It would be nice if it were smaller but that's not a big issue.

CAR & OUTDOORS
Pros: solid design, easy to use and learn. Cons: none...yet
I did a lot of research and after seeing the deal that GPS City had on this unit I just had to get it. Yeah I could have gotten a newer model, and was literally drooling over the 62s. However, at $199.95 for the 60CXs, it was $200 dollars less! I would have loved the 3-axis tilt-compensated compass and really would have liked the custom map feature. But I decided I was not that mad at my money, and that I could get along just fine without them.
I have not really used the unit yet, but will say that in my condo it locks into 12 satellites. I am going to use this unit in my car as much as in the woods, and have just ordered a RAM mount. Sure...a Nuvi would have been cool, but I am on a budget. Besides, with the Quad Helix antenna, I figure it will work great in the car. Next it will be the City MAps..which are not cheap. But I saved so much on the unit I really cannot complain too much. After reading up on so many models, I must say that I am very impressed with the visibility of the screen in full sunlight. The unit is very well made and I can't say enough about GPS City, as the unit arrived in no time at all. Big bang for the buck! :)

EXCELLENT PRODUCT!
Pros: compact and light to carry around with you.
I took this gps out hunting this year and it worked great! It was my first gps, so I was looking for something very user friendly. This unit is very user friendly, I was able to figure out all the common functions within minutes. it was about -27 the entire week I was out and the gps still worked great, the display didn't slow down like some of my other electronics. I dropped it several times in the snow which didnt seem to affect it at all. I recalibrated the compas when I got out to the hunting area, and it worked great! I wasnt really sure if I need a gps to hunt, as I have hunted for years without one, but I was very impressed with this gps, and will have it in my pocket every time I hunt! Each set of batteries lasted just over a day, with the unit on all day. I prefer regular batteries over rechargeable batteries. It was easy to carry a couple extra batteries Incase mine died, quick and easy to change without tools. Great overall product! highly recommended!

This is an excellent survey unit for my field of work which is prospecting for mineral deposits (a.k.a. grassroots mineral exploration). GREAT VALUE
Pros: long battery life
This is my first handheld GPS and I've done a lot of research and decided on this model. I found a website that had them on sale, but wanted to deal with GPScity. They had a 'price match' feature that was easy to use and within minutes I had a coupon code emailed to me to price match the deal.
The unit is easy to use and took little practise. I have uploaded 20 trail maps from a friend and can now ride in the bush with confidence. I have ridden in the rain and dust and the GPS has not failed me.
Thanks GPScity!

EXCELLENT UNIT FOR OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Pros: fast redraws, sensitivity, display, menus, Cons: battery life good, but not great
I purchased the predecessor, the 60CS, and liked it so well that I decided to upgrade to the 60CSx for the improvements. Many of the same great features but MUCH faster screen redraws. The redraws with TOPO 2008 are almost instantaneous. The sensitivity of the receiver is also improved with this model. I get locks sooner and in more adverse conditions than previously. I can store my entire state's topo maps on the 60CSx. The menus are intuitive and don't take long to learn. The color display is very bright and clear. With color, it is much easier to differentiate, say, a stream from a road or a topo line on the map. I use my unit most while navigating the backcountry on my atv. The unit takes a pounding on the handlebar mounted RAM mount. I even rolled the atv once. Just scuffed the rubberized body a little. Still works great. Owned my 60CSx 3 yrs. I highly recommend this unit!

DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!
Pros: signal, ruggedness, dependability, functionaliy Cons: none
I am outdoor enthusiast and wanted to purchase a unit that I could take anywhere when I Quad, sled, hike, fish, hunt, and now even geocache! that could receive lots of abuse. After lots of research I decided on the GPSMAP 60CSX, the thing has been around a while and like the screen size and external antenna. This thing is amazing it gets signal under the thickest canopy's and cloud cover, and to boot has been accurate within 7-9ft consistently. After an afternoon of fiddling around I had the thing figured out enough and am still learning the more advanced functions. The electronic compass is VERY handy. The external memory card is very handy but am a little upset as it was advertised coming with 512mb card when in fact it came with a 1gb card and I didn't need to spend the extra money on a larger memory card. This GPS is tried, tested and true and I highly recommend it.
GPS city is fantastic they had the lowest price by far and were excellent to deal with, I would do business with them anytime.

BEST MILITARY WORTHY GPS OUT THERE
Pros: tough, waterproof Cons: should also be available in a bright color
Bought this puppy not long ago and I've put it to the test and so far out in the field at CFB Shilo, MB and it has never cease to impress me. It has so many features to keep you busy for while (specially at night). LOL
The only thing that I would change or would like to try on this unit is having the buttons above the screen instead and, having the lanyard attachment point at the very bottom of the unit (and not to the top right of the screen).
Other than that, I'd recommend this one to anyone out there looking for the best there is and military worthy!

FIRST RATE!
Pros: weatherproof, tough, good resolution, fast Cons: small buttons, narrow view
I use it in my car, sailing, and on my motorcycle. With my biggest memory card I rode across Canada without problems. One thing I learned early on, use a 12 volt cable as the batteries drop voltage quickly on cold mornings. I leave mine on "track is up" so that the narrow screen displays the road ahead. On a 300 metre scale it shows roads and secondary roads in plenty of time to decide to turn. Off track navigation quickly re-calculates the route. If I had a complaint I'd wish the buttons were bigger but I can live with that for the excellent price and value for the money. Bulletproof in all weather and easy to unclip from my RAM mount and drop into a pocket. I can't find a reason to spend another $500 to $800 for something else.

GREAT 1ST GPSR
Pros: easy to use/learn, solid feel, larger color screen Cons: basemap is outdated, usb cord connection awkward
This is our first GPSr unit. We bought it mainly for offroading in our jeep but have since started using it for geocaching as well. Have to say that I am thrilled with its performance and ease of use. Couple of issues that don't effect me, but might others. The base map is terrible and hasn't been upgraded in over 5 years. There are streets and sctions that really should be on the unit. The USB cord that comes with it should have a 90 degree connection at the GPSr end so it can lay flatter on the table.

THIS THING EVEN WORKS UNDERGROUND!
Pros: loaded with features. readable in bright sun.
Well at least in my basement. My office is in the corner of the basement, and I can get 4-5 sats, although they are weak. Stated precision is 15-20 metres. I only lose signal when I put it on the basement floor.
Also tried it in the Central American jungle and I never lost reception once.
I really like how readable the screen is in bright sunlight. It's like paper. The user interface is very intuitive and highly configurable. The metric units are also very well presented, and there is no feel of American units in the background. (This is often an annoyance in other types of device/software)
I use it with the french interface, and for the most part, the translation is very well done. There are a few places where they missed a word, but it's not enough to be annoying. (i.e. Ouest "on" rue Jacques-Cartier).

GPS IN CHINA
Pros: excellent reliability, accurate, dependable, Cons: china city nav maps off by a few degrees
I had a GPSmap 60CSx for a number of years. I used it in Indonesia, using a geologist's custome made map of Sumatra. I also used in New Zealand with some maps I downloaded from the Internet. It worked like a charm. Though it was not reroutable. I then used it in China using Garmin's Plug & Play City Navigator Map which is in the form of a microSD/SD card. It works well however there is twist. I heard that China distorts the signal so that you are off by a few degrees. It takes some getting use to but nonetheless it is reliable and useful in navigating the larger cities in China. It is also reroutable but I don't use this function much as it is more of a nuisance then practical. With my GPS I travel like a local with confidence. I know where I am and where I am going. It also helps deter taxi drivers who think they can take you for a ride. Thumbs up as world wide

A GOOD DEVICE WITH SOME DISAPPOINTMENT
The first test for my new GPSMAP 60CSx device was for my trip to China.
The reason I chose this model was because several of my friends werer using it in the field, and all them gave it a high marks for geologists. But my experience in the first few days was not that joyful --- the device does not have the preloaded base map for China. I sent emails to GARMIN, and the answer was that for the devices purchased in North America, they would not have the preloaded map for China, unless I buy one in China. What a disappointment!
Then I thought maybe I could pay a fee for an upgrade (to have the base map for China), and the answer was a 'no', from both GARMIN and its dealer in China.
I have no doubt that this is an excellent GPS, but it was pity that people can't use it globally, as it is called Global Positioning System.
I had then turned to a person who can help me in upgrading me with a loaded map of China, and, more surprisingly, he could add Chinese language on the language menu to my device! The guy charged me with a reasonable fee for the service.
I hope the manuafacturer could make their products a truly global device.

STILL AN EXCELLENT GPS
Pros: excellent all around gps unit Cons: slow loading large map sets to memory
While this design has been around for mre than a few years (I pre-ordered my GPSMap 60Cs) it is still a great gps unit. The receivers have obviously improved over time, as there is a marked difference in performance between the 60Csx and the 60Cs. The software has also changed, with some features being left out, notably the alarm clock. The graphics are also more cartoony (mac-esque if you will) I preferred the old style "harder" graphics. Overall this GPS serves me well hiking, ATVing, boating, flying, and driving. It has weaknesses in each activity, such as screen size when driving, and battery life when hiking, but in spite of these minor shortcomings, it remains an extremely versatile do everything GPS for my needs. The largest improvement by far is the addition of a card slot for increased map memory. This allows me to have the entire navigator 2010, plus a couple of states worth of topo maps at my immediate disposal whenever I need them. Overall I am pleased with the upgrades in comparison to the 60Cs. While it is not perfect for any one activity, it is an excellent compromise for an all around GPS for multiple uses. I highly recommend installing power cords and mounting systems in any vehicle you may be going to use this GPS in, as the case does not lend itself to staying put on a seat or dashboard, and running on vehicle power will help conserve battery life. I further recommend using rechargable batteries as the provide a longer use, and can be easily recharged to use again.

I have bought this GPS for Geocaching and some trail. I already have on hand an Oregon 300 and need a second unit because my wife have fallen in love with Geocaching. I have decide to try this one on a friend recommendation. What I like, its a really fast unit for satellite acquisition and keep it under dense cover. On theses points, better than the Oregon. This GPS feel really tough. For geocaching, text description could be better. The Oregon for text description is the winner. Up to now, its a great buy.

Pros: compact size, lightweight, generally user friendly Cons: always recalcs route screen could be brighter
Generally very good experience with this unit, but also being an owner of a StreetPilot, I am disappointing this unit recalculates the route every time it is loaded for navigation. Not a big issue for most perhaps, but I hate created my "perfect" route on the PC, only to have the GPS change the routing when it recalculates. THE BEST FOR A REASON..........
Pros: very fast receiving satellites, easy read screen. Cons: none so far.
I have owned a Garmin GPS 2 PLUS, a Garmin V deluxe, and now own a Nuvi 660 and a 60CSx, and this is the best of the lot, its a take anywhere unit that never fails, at least not so far,(using it for 3 years). Its great for geocaching, with its built-in softwear, and you can use it for navigating in the city, using city navigator, but this unit really shines in the country. I have used it in remote Labrador on fishing trips, saved all the tracks, all the waypoints and simply recall it when i go back each year, very comforting.I also use this a lot on my snowmobiling trips, by plugging it in to the 12 volt system it never fails, and even on new trails where the snow makes evrything look alike, i always feel assured i will find my way out.

Cons: screen size to small, battery life limited
Lots of settings and readouts, compass feature based on magnetic, elevation and barometric pressure. on trackback withing up to 3 ft of old trac. Waas capable. Great signal reception even in buildings the unit still picks up, or maybe it is software driven, but the track is true. Great Outdoor GPS

GREAT VALUE MAP GPS
Pros: simple user interface, high quality Cons: no displays on handheld map gps are big enough yet
After testing a bunch of units, we bought a bunch of these for our local Search & Rescue unit. Menus are simple and intuitive. Color maps are very good on their own, but our GIS dude replaced them with custom maps of our county with all sorts of local information. It also interfaces with Mac & Windows.

RECEPTION IS AMAZING...
Pros: reception - ease of use... Cons: mac software still woefully behind windows version
I upgraded from an Etrex Vista and the difference in signal acquisition was truly remarkable. With the 60csx I can get a signal when under trees, in a vehicle, inside my home. My Etrex Vista, also a nice GPSr, would rarely acquire a signal in those same conditions.

GREAT GEOCACHE GPS
Pros: great screen, good button layout Cons: a little hard to find some menu items
My 5th GPS and my favorite. Fast startup and accurate. I like all the configuration options, but sometimes have trouble finding settings I know are there. The electronic compass seems to work quite well. I am not at all impressed with the barometer feature. It is quite geocache friendly, but would be handy if it could hold a few more characters in descriptions

FANTASTIC BUT UNRELIABLE GPS
Pros: logging tracks to memory card, streetmapping Cons: some units unreliable
Great features, especially being able to log tracks to the memory card and not have to download or save the active logs each day. Great cross-over unit for field use with no maps (I worked in Mongolia) and as a compromise car sat-nav system with DVD or SD mapping (home in Brisbane). BUT... Every so often some of the GPS60CSx units will lose or corrupt their operating software after a turn-on (go to setup then system then press menu and software version, the GPS has two softwares listed and the bottom one reads version 0.00 if you have this problem). Garmin doesn't offer a solution. The work-around will need the software reinstalling via a PC update. Totally useless if you are not within striking distance of a PC and the latest updater.

This is a great unit. I moved up from a GPS V and the additional features along with the N.America NT 2009 data card make this unit tops. Great for snowmobiling especially the Electronic compass for pinpointing your exact location and the nearest towns for gas, food and lodging (using the NAmer data card). I also have a StreetPilot 2720 great in the car, truck and motorcycle but of no use while hiking, and snowmobiling. The GPS60 CSX unit is well made, great at picking up satellites, easy to put in your pocket and long battery life from only two AA's. We use this unit to plan fishing trips around the best times for fishing and camping when the moon is full.

REVIEW
This GPS handheld is great! I used it during a recent hunting trip. I was unfamiliar with the woods I was hunting in but this handheld still made it easy to find the same tree stand no matter which direction I approached it from. It was also fun to use on the plane (above 10,000 ft). It's fun to look out the window at cities and now with gps there is no guessing as to what city or what state you are above. I also depended on this gps to get me through a major city with turn by turn directions. It saved me alot of time. I like the advisory feature that pops up before the next turn, it seems to adjust if you are going faster giving you more time to change lanes and prepare for the turn or exit. I reccomend this unit if you need a handheld for the trail and also want a navigator. There are better easier to use city navigation units but this one works just fine for me, I don't need something talking to me.

GOOD MULTIPURPOSE UNIT FOR MILITARY USE
There are six aircrew and sailors in HMCS CALGARY as part of CTF 150 supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in the Arabian Sea presently using the GPSMAP 60CSx. As far as I know the only GPS units on board, aside from the military supplied units, are the Garmin units. Surprisingly, everyone bought the same model independently (says wonders about the reputation of this unit). I bought mine from gpscity.ca and was very happy with the service and delivery time to Victoria, BC. The unit itself is robust, dependable, and up to the rigors of military use soakings, accidental drops, etc. Most of us use it as a portable backup on both the water and in the helicopter. The reception and accuracy is frankly amazing. The mapping software for the area is accurate and reliable and really helps with our situational awareness with merely a glance - something that is very useful when in the air or conducting a complex at sea evolution. Battery life is very good - occasionally getting 20 hours off one set on Duracell NiMH. When ashore it is very useful as well - How can you get lost in a new port when you have routing software that takes you right to the destination - or at the very least enables you to tell the cabbie which way to go. Overall this unit is highly recommended and there are at least six of us who can attest to this.

Wow this new Garmin 60CSX is great. We took it to Washington and Oregon and even in the Forest canopy it worked great. We could not believe how easy it was to pick up the satellites. Our old Garmin worked good, but nothing like this new one. Even in our home we are able to pick up satellites. We use our GPS mainly for geo-caching. This new GPS is right on to all the caches we have found. We are very happy with this model.

GARMIN TOPO MAP MICROSD CARD SE 2008
I received my Garmin GPS 60 CSx on May 2, along with the Topo US 2008 Southeast card. I called Garmin for a little help installing and they wer prompt and efficient. However, the 2008 SE Map is Obsolete. I know the datail on it is over 20 years old but I believe it to be over 25 years old. Example is that I live on a lake in Alpharetta Ga The Lake has been here since at least 1983. However, the 2008 SE Map only shows a stream going through it. This is now frog pong now, this lake is over 200 acres of water and has five miles of shore line. Another example is roadways on it. The mop shows Hwy 19 going from Alpharetta to Dalonega. Well, HWY 19 was replaced by Georgia 400 some 20 years ago as well. Many other descrepencies exist on this product, I only used these two as examples because they are such huge geographical characters that were developed in the early 80's that they are easy to use. A TOPO Map using such outdated information is absolutely worthless to me and scary to use.

VERY GOOD GPSR
When used as a typical hand-held, this GPSr is absolutely amazing. It is not so good when used in a vehicle as it is very hard to see the screen during the daylight hours. In the evening however, it is excellent in a vehicle. You'll have to have this puppy connected with the cigarette lighter adapter to save on the batteries. Which brings be to my next point, boy does this ever go through batteries fast! (Use lithium batteries that have been used for a short period of time in order to drop the voltage down.) I also have installed a 2Gb memory card in mine as these days they are so cheap, why wouldn't you? This is a very sensitive model and it has no problems picking up satellites while inside my house. (Though I don't really need a GPSr to navigate between the rooms in my house.) So far there are no real complaints other than it has no direct Commodore VIC-20 support. :) Overall, you will be very happy with this model.

LOUISIANA DEEP WOODS TEST
Maybe I expect too much out of this GPS but after reading all of the reviews- I guess I had no choice. Overall the GPS works better than most. I live in Louisiana and hunt in the deep, dark woods down here and I knew this would be the ultimate test. I was impressed with the ability to keep signal lock regardless of the tree obstructions. Its easy to use and the Topo Map I purchased separately was ok but not great. The one disappointment I had been with its accuracy. In the thick Louisiana canopy, 20-30 feet might as well be 20 miles. I found that returning to my waypoints- I was off by 50 to sometimes 70 feet which is not good. It keeps a signal/Sat lock in the thick canopy at all times BUT it does affect the accuracy. Also- while moving fast to a waypoint in the same environment, I in affect got to the way point before the GPS could "Catch-up". When I got to my ATV is was showing 75 feet from waypoints and as I stood at my ATV it eventually counted down to 15-20 feet. That wasn’t good. It’s like it’s constantly doing calculations to offset the lack of sat signal to give you the impression that you do have a sat lock. In the open field, light woods and open water it’s superior but, if your a deep woods hunter who needs 10-15ft accuracy- it is not too much better than less priced models.chadb19_2000@yahoo.com

I got my 60CSx for Christmas (06). This being my 4th GPS I find it to be excellent and the best one yet. I find that the acquire times are very quick and the accuracy exceeds the eTrex models I had before. The ability to store extra maps (with a 1gig card) is a big bonus as is the ability to add custom POIs to the unit. This is definitely the Cadillac of GPSs.

For the person wondering about the size of card the unit takes, I have a 60Cx and I have installed a 2 Gig Micro SD card and it works. I have all of the MetroGuide Canada v4 and MetroGuide Europe V8 installed with a couple of hundred Megs to spare. You have to ensure your computer recognizes the Micro SD card as removable disk drive and download it to the drive. If you attempt to download it to the unit it will comeback with an error message “too many files”. It takes almost two hour to download it through the device, it must be USB 1.1, I have a fast card reader and I will try to see if it will download to the card reader, theoretically it should since it is still a removable drive.

Just got a 60CSx and was a bit dissapointed by several things: 1. The overall display appearance seems “dumbed-down” a bit somehow from my previous 60CS. The menu icons look like the cartoonish ones used in the color eTrex units. 2. The alarm clock function as in the 60CS is totally omitted! I found this feature quite handy in the 60CS. Maybe going to be added by an update? 3. I was dissapointed that it wouldn’t locate indoors (at least where I was) as I thought it was supposed to be able to do. 4. There is no menu icon relating to, or dealing with, any aspect of the mini-SD card one might be using in the unit. This would be a handy feature at least to know what size TF card you had in the unit as well as the amount of memory in use (and still available).

Lots of people are expecting this GPS to be the perfect GPS. I really like it so far and I don't have any complaints. Most of the complaints you'll see are people comparing the features of this GPS to the 60CS. The features most people are complaining about are really minor.
Icons: Ok the new icons are more cartoon like. None of them are hard to tell what the function is which is the point of an icon. It's an artistic style choice some people will like it and some will not.
No alarm: I have about 10 devices with an alarm clock on them I don't see where not including this feature is such a big deal.
No barometric trends while off: Garmin has stated this is a limitation of the new hardware. Useful if you're in the back country and can't get a weather radio broadcast. Otherwise a mostly unused feature.
Expectation of indoor reception: I can personally get reception in my house. This is not going to hold true for everyone. It's still a GPS and needs a somewhat unobstructed view of the sky. The new receiver is a HUGE improvement over the old one though and gets a lock much faster and holds it better in terrain that is tough for a GPS to work in.
Over-Expectation of accuracy: People keep forgetting that this is still a consumer GPS and is limited as to the accuracy it can get. Just because the GPS says it's got 3' accuracy doesn't mean it's correct. The 60CS and the 60CSx calculate their accuracy differently.Since the 60CS claims it is more accurate people fully trust the number the GPS is reporting and claim the 60CSx is less accurate. This isn't the case however in real world tests in clear skys both units have similar accuracy. However in challenging reception situations the 60CSx get better signal and is then "more accurate".
GPS "Walking": The 60CSx tends to walk around when stopped for a while causing the stopped time and distance traveled to be inaccurate. Garmin is aware of the problem and has stated it will be fixed with a firmware release.
Mini SD Card issues: This is the first offering by Garmin with a removable memory card. There are a few limitations however compared to other brands. First the cards are ONLY used to store maps. No waypoints, tracks, routes, etc. are stored on the cards. It would be nice to have these features but it doesn't seem that this is something that will (or can??) be changed with a firmware update. People also complain that there is no way to view information about the memory card (Space left, file listing, etc.) since there is no way to add data without having the GPS hooked into MapSource this is a non-issue. You can't write to it so why does it matter how much space is left? Oh and if you haven't seen a Mini SD card in person, wow they are really tiny about the size of a fingernail. People without good dexterity might have issues changing the card.
This is a really great GPS. If you have a 60CS already you need to carefully weigh your decision to upgrade since this unit will really only add increased reception(not accuracy) and the removable memory card. If you're upgrading from something other than a 60CS you'll love it, I sure do.

Tony NY Prior to 2008 |
First off, I'm no newbie to using a GPS, this is my third. In all fairness they were all Garmins, a 45 and a Vista. My main use is in woods and fields while metal detecting. I use them mostly to mark where things were found, and also for navigating deep woods. The place I took it to test is the worst I've ever been in. I was in a valley, with a double canopy. That is, one about 80' and the other about 15'. On a sunny day it's so dark in some spots that I wear a "headlight" just to see what I'm digging. The Vista works "OK" in some areas there, but most spots I'd only get one bar drifting in and out, rendering it useless....even after moving around for a better view of the sky. In the spot I used for the 60CSx, the Vista wouldn't even get one satellite.
I turned on the 60CSx and in about a minute it had about 3/4 power locks on 5 satellites. About a minute later it had 6! You have to see what this place is like to truly understand how shocked I was. The best stated accuracy it would get there was 25'. I marked the spot and turned the GPS off. Walked about 100 yards away, turned it back on, and navigated my way back to within about 10' of the spot. I tried it again a few times with similar results.
I tried the same test with both the Vista and 60CSx, in a spot where the Vista would get reception. The Vista stated 13' and the 60CSx stated 21' accuracy. The result was that both got within 10'- 12' of the marked spot (a shovel in the ground). For some reason the 60CSx always stated much worse accuracy than the unit was capable of. I can't understand why, but honestly don't care now because I got used to it. The Vista was no more accurate than the 60CSx.
The only real gripes I have are that the barometer is reading way off many times, even after calibrating it. The other thing is when I hit "Go To", it automatically goes to the Map page, not the Navigate page (Compass/Pointer). This might be me, but I can't find how to change the default. If it weren't for these, I would deffinitely rate it at 5 stars.
For me, the reception of this thing more than makes up for the cons, but they still bother me. I have to look further into why the barometer isn't working right, as the Vista worked fine (and went straight to the Nav page from "Go To". I'm very pleased with it for what I need, and can actually stand over the spot I dug something and get a great signal. I'm still in awe.

My experience is with the Etrex Vista. In shopping a replacement I found some problems with the 60CSx. Why doesnt Garmin produce the reciever specs to show just how much better this one is? They claim it is better, but wheres the specs? The SD card (micro not mini) supplied is 64Mb, but there are 256Mb available. What is the max the unit can use? What if I install a 512 or 1Gb card?
Thus far, Garmin is lacking on the details, and long on marketing.

My only negative about this device was it came with very basic MapSource software so you will still need to buy a MapSource product for $100+ if you wish to do city navigation.
