GARMIN FOOTPOD

Pros: easy/secure install, light wt, accurate cad/dist
Cons: none so far

Paired with 310xt. Works as it should - easy and secure install, easy detection and calibration. Has provided accurate and reliable cadence and distance information so far. Have used the pod for trail, indoor and road running and in dry, snowy, icy, wet and brushy conditions with no problems so far. Fastening system makes it easy to transfer between shoes. Works well to measure distance in areas with poor gps coverage.

GREAT ADDITION TO THE 410

Pros: did exactly as advertised
Cons: none

I can only say positive things. The foot pod worked great with the 410 watch and super easy to attached to my laces. I know other people posted that the lace in bracket seemed week and poor fitting but I would disagree.

WORKS GREAT !

Pros: small, easy to pair, securely attached to shoes.
Cons: none

Got this along with the ANT+ Connector for iPhone. Works great.

Though Garmin says the ANT+ Connector is for iPhone, I am using it with my iPod Touch (4th Gen). I paired it with the Foot Pod in a matter of seconds (same thing for the heart beat monitor).

WORKS GREAT

Pros: small, securely attaches to shoe

Bought to use with Garmin Forerunner 610 training watch, works very well with it. Its small and clips under the shoelaces. I have only have it pop out once when tightening my shoelaces, and never when out running, on the treadmill or walking around the gym. Its great to calculate cadence and also for calculating distance when running on a treadmill indoors. Not sure exactly how accurate it is for calculating distances, its not something I have been paying attention to yet.

FOOT POD WITH GARMIN 305

Pros: easy to 'install' and sync

I bought the foot pod for use on a treadmill and when I can't pick up a satellite signal. Was very easy to attach to my shoes and it synced up quickly with my 305.

VERYBENEFICIAL FOR POST WORKOUT CADENCE ANALYSIS

Pros: cadence cadence cadence

This is the new pod, not the much larger & ungainly older pod. Easy to install, a bit finicky if you're moving it around shoes frequently as invaribaly the lace gets caught on the front connector. The connector is very sturdy - ran through very snowry & cold Calgary winter and no worries about losing it, nor given the down pours last week, water proof. . You won't notice it's on your shoe. The battery is replaceable.

I'm not much of a treadmill runner & usually train to duration not distance but when on the road with work, it has been useful to slurp that into Garmin Connect. To that end I have never bothered calibrating it.

The biggest benefit of the foot pod is cadence analysis. I'm changing (maybe reverting back?) to a higher cadence, and changing by stide pattern. This lets me assess cadence & assess impact on speed / effort. And or couse compare to cycling cadence. I haven't yet but could of course, set up cadence alerts on the fore runner.

EXPENSIVE BUT GOOD

Pros: fairly accurate on treadmill, fits nice in nike
Cons: expensive

I bought the footpod for treadmill workouts specifically but also to fill in the gaps on outdoor runs in downtown Toronto between buildings, etc where the GPS signal gets lost. It seems to get the distance pretty well right out of the box for me on the treadmill.

The only issue I have is that it is an expensive product. Comparatively speaking, GPS City is reasonable to others.

In retrospect I should have bought the combo watch/HRM/pod and saved a little money but I was just getting into running at the time and didn't see the value.

I would say that if you are planning to use it for the treadmill only it's probably not worth getting. I wanted to have my watch record all of my workouts, that's the primary reason I got it. Probably not really a great reason, as I could just enter details manually from the treadmill.

Fits nice into my Nike Free Run's. I don't trust the clip, especially for cold weather, I think it may snap.

CADENCE CALCULATOR

Pros: fits in nike shoes for +
Cons: price

I'm working on improving my cadence while running, so this helps give me data to look at to see if I am. Using it with the Garmin 410

Kind of expensive for that purpose, but oh well, whatever gets you out running more!

GARMIN FORERUNNER FOOT POD

Pros: price, size
Cons: not at this time

I am currently using the foot pod with the Garmin Forerunner 310 for over a month now. It was extreamly easy to calibrate using the GPS and works without a hitch. I do a lot of running indoors on the treadmill and it has worked flawlessly since I purchased it. The lace clip works very well, it has never fallen off.

WORKS WITH FORERUNNER 305 AS WELL

Pros: lightweight, small, additional statistics
Cons: if any - a bit pricy

I got this to add to my 305 to help track distance on my treadmill runs. Works as advertised. Nice to add turnover rate (rpm) to road runs as well. Loved the next-day delivery.

NICE ADDITION TO THE 310

Pros: tiny, easy to set up, works perfectly.
Cons: expensive - gps.ca was the best price i could find

This is a useful tool to monitor indoor running on a treadmill or indoor track. It seemed expensive, but is well designed and works flawlessly. I'm computer stupid, so was happy to see the watch sniffed the pod out automatically and set up was very easy. The unit is small. I don't run in Nikes, so can't say if it works in the nike cutout. I am happy I bought it, and will buy other garmin pods for biking with the 310.

FOOT POD FOR FORERUNNER GARMIN 305

This unit works really well. If it is being used outdoors select the "no to use while indoors" option. Otherwise the GPS never seems to turn on for a long time on the Forerunner 305. Alternatively, reset the watch when you are outside or have it sync up to the satellites first before activating the foot pod. Apart from this small issue it is really great!

I was unsure of the accuracy out of the box but is close. I use it on an indoor track and it is within meters over 5 kms. It was easy to install and has not moved at all. Very glad I bought it.

GARMIN FORERUNNER 305 AND FOOT POD

Pros: small, works well and very well priced at gpscity
Cons: issue with my 305 if foot pod is on first

Works as expected and I have had no issues with it at all.

If you use the Foot Pod outside with your 305 and Satellite Mode (Not in INDOOR MODE)... I found a problem with my Forerunner 305 and the way it works with the Foot Pod... I know the satellite acquisition is slow with the 305 however I found that if the Foot Pod is activated and you turn on the Forerunner 305 the satellite acquisition can increase by 3-10 times than if the Foot Pod was not activated in the Watch at all!

On that note, since I leave the Foot Pod on my shoe all the time and if you don't move the Foot Pod it's in sleep mode. I turn on the Watch first and the satellite signal if found quickly and then I put on my shoes which wakes up the Foot Pod and you than get prompted by the watch if you are using it indoors or not. But if the Foot Pod is not found first the Satellite is picked up quite quickly ... FYI

FOOT POD IS AMAZING!

Pros: amazing amazing tracking capabilities
Cons: tricky setting it up with watch on 1st try

One of the best purchases I have made. So handy as the satellite on my Garmin watch is not always able to connect due to living in a downtown area of the city with many office buildings, etc... The foot pod was a bit tricky to connect to my watch initially, but now that I know what I'm doing it is really easy. All you need to do is turn on your watch, attach the foot pod to your shoe, then while holding the shoe in one hand, move it up and down in a walking motion for 10 seconds or so until your watch pops up with a screen asking you if you'd like to use the foot pod. Just say yes, and you're good to go!

GARMIN FORERUNNER FOOT POD

Pros: reliable, easy to attach, user replacable battery
Cons: none

This product also works with the Forerunner 305 watch. It fits any running shoe because it attaches to the shoe laces. It has a user replaceable battery. Pairing with the Forerunner watch is simple and reliable. The pace feedback is more accurate than the average treadmill when used indoors and is integrated with watch heart rate data from the heart monitor strap

SHOE BUDDY - GARMIN 305 FOOTPOD

Pros: light weight, accurate, easy install, pairs easily
Cons: they're a tad on the expensive side, imo.

I purchased a Garmin Forerunner 305 and discovered very quickly that if I wanted to record my distance and heart rate / calories, etc, that I was going to have to get the footpod. I don't run outside in the winter time to prevent injury. I use my treadmill instead. The footpod is accurate and no hassles. You wouldn't even notice it if you weren't looking at your shoes on purpose. Very good and does what it says. I had no problems putting it on my shoe and I haven't had to do anything with it since. The information that it provides offers excellent information for me to review and record on my Garmin Connect.

GREAT ADDITION

The foot pod worked exactly as advertised, I'm quite happy with it. It's great to have all my data in one place on the Garmin page for outside and inside (treadmill) runs. It was kind of tough to install it initially on my shoe, but once I figured out how to properly clip it in, it has become a fixture on my runners.

THE NEW 405 FOOTPOD ACCURATE?

Pros: incredibly small, easy clip on, very light weight
Cons: combination with gps needs improvement

The new Garmin foot pod for the Garmin 305 and 405 is it accurate? First of all you have to calibrate the foot pod. Use an official athletic course and run several laps with different speed. The calibration factor will differ each lab, because of the different speed and therefore different length of your pace. Take the average value. Inside a fitness centre, the foot pod is pretty accurate. However, if you are running slower or faster than the average speed you ran at the calibration laps, the measured values (speed and distance) will accordingly differ from the accurate value. Outside, I tested the foot pod paired with a 405, while the gps was on. I wanted improved accuracy of the measured values when you are running in the woods, with roofs of dense foliage. The idea was that the foot pod will provide accurate values under the foliage, while GPS reception was poor, but the GPS would take over as soon you are running under open skies. The comparison was made with a Garmin 305 (gps on), which I wore at the same time during the test. My findings: Under dense foliage the 405 with foot pod is more accurate than without. Under clear skies, GPS is superior. And the combination? As soon as satellite reception is restored, average speed and distance are – as it seems – corrected by the received GPS data. However, the measured values of the 305 were more accurate at that same moment. My guess is that the ‘take over’ by GPS needs improvement a faster recognition of restored satellite reception, and therefore a quicker overruling of the foot pod data. This probably needs an update of the firmware by Garmin. I certainly hope Garmin will give it a try. The combination could be superior accuracy, unbeaten by competitors. The latest firmware improved the GPS Fix dramatically, fine-tuning of the combi GPS and foot pod will dramatically improve accuracy and therefore the quality of work out data.
