With the eTrex Legend, GARMIN has loaded a full basemap of North and South America into one small unit.
The basemap contains lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways, railroads and coastlines. The eTrex Legend is also equipped with additional memory totaling eight megabytes. The added memory allows the eTrex Legend to accept downloaded map data from GARMIN's entire line of MapSource CD-ROMs. The eTrex Legend comes in a brightly-colored translucent blue case that really makes the unit stand out. New to the product design, GARMIN will include marine aids to navigation in addition to the basemap. These navigational aids will be pre-loaded into each unit from the factory.

Here is a listing we have put together of some of the common eTrex Legend features,
along with a few user tips that you may find of help for this particular item. | • GPS accuracy: 15 meters or less in normal GPS mode, 3 meters or less when WAAS-enabled
• Built-in GPS patch antenna
• Internal memory: 8 megabyte internal memory for loading MapSource detail including BlueChart marine and topographic cartography
• Unit dimensions: 2.0''W x 4.4''H x 1.2''D
• Display: 1.1''W x 2.1''H (2.0'' diagonally), high-contrast LCD with bright backlighting
• Weight: 5.3 ounces with batteries (not included)
• Battery life: up to 18 hours using two AA alkaline batteries (typical use)
• MapSource compatibility: Compatible with most MapSource products. See Accessories table below for complete list
• Waterproof: IEC 60529 IPX7 standards (submersible in one meter of water for up to 30 mins.)
• Waypoints and routes: 1000 user waypoints with name and graphic symbol; 20 reversible routes
• Track log: TracBack technology and 10 saved tracks
• Position format: Lat/Lon, UTM/UPS, Maidenhead, MGRS, Loran TDs, and other grids |
PRE-LOADED GARMIN MARINE NAVIGATIONAL AIDS:
Included with the Garmin eTrex Legend is a the pre-loaded Marine navigational aids (Americas Marine Points of Interest). The data is loaded into the units 8MB of internal memory, and is not part of the basemap. If Garmin MapSource Mapping Software is loaded into the Garmin eTrex Legend, the preloaded Marine POI database will be erased.
To recover this pre-loaded Marine POI data, the Map Database file can be downloaded from GARMIN's web site at www.garmin.com.
Note: Garmin MapSource Mapping Software and the Marine POI database cannot be loaded at the same time.
