GEOCACHING, ONLY TO FIND AN OWL

I was geocaching using an etrex 30 on a nice fall afternoon along a trail in Cape Breton and was fortunate enough to get close enough to snap a picture of an owl enjoying the afternoon sun.

Trying to find a good location in my truck for my GPS (Garmin eTrex Legend Cx) I thought of RAM mounts since I've used them before and love them.

I used the suction cup mount on my windshield to hold my Garmin eTrex Cx. The GPS is great because I can use it in my truck, on my bike, on my motorcycle and also use it for Geocaching.

Trying to find a good location on my motorcycle for my new camera (Drift HD170) I thought of RAM mounts since I've used them before and love them.

Since I didn't want to mount it permanently I used the suction cup mount and attached it to the "tail" of my motorcycle. This gives me a great solid view of my riding friends following me and of my riding position, depending on which way I point the camera.

HOGSBACK LAKE

10/10/10 just happens to be my birthday. This year I visited with my sister who lives on a ranch in Vanderhoof, BC. Not being a "cacher" herself, she signed up and hunted up a unique cache for me. On that day, we saddled up the horses, trailered them up to the a point on the Telegraph trail and off we went, my trusty eTrex Venture HC safely in my saddle bag. Perfect day, cold clear, beautiful. With the co-ordinates for Hogsback Lake Multi Cache punched in, it brought me directly to the first stage and from there the 2nd and finally to the cache location.
Best caching day ever! A day spent with my sister, horseback riding in beautiful northern BC and picking up a great cache, excellent. Back at home in the Fraser Valley of BC I still smile thinking about that great day.

KAYAK RAM MOUNT

RAM Mount

Just received my new RAM Mount and promptly attached it to my favorite boat. Here’s my Garmin eTrex Vista HCx attached to the kayak using the RAM Mount. I took it for a test spin this afternoon on Flint Creek. The viewing distance and accessibility were good. My main concern was that it would interfere with paddling or launching/landing. I was pleased when I completed the test run without bumping the GPS a single time. The mount was surprisingly solid and well made. Now I just need to save a few more bucks so I can add a mount to each of my other boats.

I had been looking for a mount to use on the stem of my mountain bike. Most mount either don't swivel or don't offer a quick release.

I finally came across the "RAM Mount eTrex Color Series Ez On-Off Bike Rail Mount". This mount was exactly what I was looking for.

I mostly use it for geocaching, I leave my GPS in the mount while biking and I pop it out when I go on the trails looking for caches. I also use it for mapping trails with my GPS. It's nice to be able to have a quick look down and see your speed, time of day, location and more.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of my setup. Thanks GPSCity!

Hi,

My dog is a great companion when I am hiking, cross country skiing or snow shoeing. So I attached his own Etrex along with his safety vest and headed out.

On one excursion on snow shoes my Etrex Legend hcx recorded a track of 8.7km’s and on my dog 24.5km’s. Obviously he was doing a little more off trail exploring. Then when I plotted it on the PC it was very obvious with all the zigs and zags.

Another hike I covered about 13km’s and he went 31km’s and when I plotted it another surprise was there. He had disappeared for awhile and I was having my tea he came back all out of breath. When I plotted the track along with mine it showed a 1.2km circle, I guess he found a rabbit.

It is very entertaining to plot his actual tracks compared to mine. The last picture shows the old white dog who was too old for the latest hiking. He was 19 years old on the couch and had his days in the woods. We are down to one dog now.

Cheers,

GM

RAM MOUNT ETREX SERIES BIKE RAIL MOUNT

No off road adventures yet with this set up, but I am very pleased with the initial look of the mount. It is also quick and easy to put the GPS into the mount and remove it when desired.

MY LEGEND MOUNTED ON MY MOTORCYCLE
Mounted on the Bike
Mounted on the Bike
After the tip-over
After the tip-over

I love my GPS receiver, and I knew it would be just a matter of time before I mounted it on the bike.
When I had a minor accident and broke the trip meter reset knob on my speedometer (which acts as a gas gauge), I knew it was time to install the GPSr.
Since installing it, I have really come to respect the technology that goes into these things, as it never failed me - until another "incident" in a parking lot, that all but ruined it. Amazing though, even after being smashed, there was enough of the LCD screen unaffected that would still display my speed and my mileage.
I could even reset the odometer if I could guess what my inputs were doing! lol!

It has since been replaced with another Legend.

Also, the speedometers that came with BMW's in the 70's were not known for their accuracy, so it is real nice to have an accurate speedometer.

RAM UBOLT MOUNT FOR GARMIN ETREX ON GRIZZLY 600 4X4 ATV

I mounted my Garmin Etrex on a 600 Grizzly 4by4 ATV. I used aluminum mount with stainless steel u bolt and etrex cradle (RAM-B-149-GA5U). It was very easy to install and with the double sockets it could be installed in just about any position on handle bars. I then went for a drive over rugged terrain and found the mount to be very stable. THANKS

RAM UBOLT MOUNT FOR GARMIN ETREX LEGEND ON KAWASAKI BF750 MOTORCYCLE

Here is a picture of my Garmin eTrex Legend mounted on my Kawasaki BF 750. It is mounted using the Garmin eTrex Handlebar Bike Mount. As noted in the picture I have my cell mounted as well.

This picture was taken on a fishing trip with my brother and granddaughter, this past summer. My brother has the same GPS and mount on his Yamaha Grizzly.

I save all tracks and over lay the topo maps of the various areas that we travel and also mark all waypoints of interest for possible return visits or for information for others.
This picture was taken at a location on a river in Nova Scotia called Peter Stillwater.

The eTrex is my second GPS, I used a Garmin 12 prior to the purchase of the eTrex. I have the topo maps of NS loaded in the eTrex and have found them very useful for exploring.
