PLUSES & MINUSES
Pros: reception, battery, map detail, microsd, bar mount Cons: inaccuracy, menus,
I've been using the 605 for 2 years now. Very good reception, even indoors, so you know it's good in the trees. Best thing I did was buy the map card after a year. Unbelievable detail & data. I love saving workouts on connect.garmin including cycling, hiking, showshoeing, trailwork, etc. It does have a breadcrumb trail!!! Favorites sometimes disappear and they 'move' around. The 'grade' feature is ridiculous. The elevation is usually incorrect but within 50-80'(yesterday the highway sign said 6K' and the 605 showed 6088')(On my Rino 130 I can adjust the elevation). After I've stopped moving the 605 sometimes continues to add distance and/or elevation!! I'm going to make my own wrist strap for use when not on a bike. Would I buy this again? Yeah, until there's an alternative...buy a 705 or the 800.

EDGE 605 REVIEW
Pros: menu navigation, turn-by-turn, mounting Cons: documentation
On-board menus and navigation are a breeze with the pointing device. Picks up sattelites well. Display a little dim without good outdoor lighting or backlighting on. Turn-by-turn directions for GPX format maps are very good. Already owned a Garmin GPS so I was somewhat prepared for their lack of documentation but this unit requires digging on the net to get help. For example re-joining a route or trying to navigate it backwards.

Of over 10 Garmin GPS units I have owned this is my least favorite. Garmin replaced my first Edge 605 because it was locking up every single time I used it now the replacement has the same problem. In addition to being undependable the unit is too complicated, hard to operate and if you use the navagation you can't see your trip computer half the time because it is always telling you something that blocks the screen. Even though I have mine set to bike mode it still tries to direct me to busy streets I would never ride my bike on. It does not have a bread crumb trail which is the most helpful thing for me in navigating my rides. I like the etrex Vista much more.
