REVIEW OF GARMIN APPROACH G6
Pros: simple to use, long battery life Cons: screen res. is low & few option to keep stats
Product is very user friendly even for the non-technology users. Very good battery life and I like the rechargeable ion batteries, not sure how and if they can be replaced by end user when they eventually go. I've used other Golf GPS on the iPhone that can keep stats on number of putts, driving accuracy, sand shots and penalty stokes per hole. It's a good way to get really good stats on where you need to improve your game on. The GARMIN G6 doesn't offer anything close to this other than keeping club average distances as you hit different clubs. The only thing you have to remember on the G6, if you want to start keeping club distance adverage, is to hit the "MEASURE" button before you start moving towards your ball - something I keep forgetting to do. I also pretty disapointed with the resolution of the display - GARMIn seems to have gone backwards with the G6 rather than improve it. I emailed them and they stated that it was to improve visibility in bright sunlight. I work in the Technology field and know that they have other displays available to them that would give better graphics while still being very good in bright sunlight. The question to always ask, is at what cost would this be at to get the higher resolution! Although many golf courses are available, there asre still some popular ones in my area missing. One of them being probably one of the best in our area - The Hollinger Golf Club in Timmins although Garmin has several of the smaller 9 hole courses in much smaller communities. You can check the availabilty of course in your area before you puchase any GARMIN Golf GPS. They indicate that it is on the list to be added but give no date on when that could be be - 1 month, 6 months, 1 year or 5, who knows! All in all, it does what it is suppose to do. On a recent Golf Trip to Michigan, another buddy of mine had the "Golf Buddy" GPS and in most instances the distances where very close. On a few holes, the GARMIN seemed to be off by 20 yards or so to the green on approach shots. It was obvious that the distances were closer to 60 yards rather than the 80 yards the GARMIN G6 was indicating - I'm not sure why that is but that's what you can get when getting these courses from Google Earth and not walking them. If you want that accuracy than you should look at the SkyCaddie that comes with a yearly subscription based on where you play and how many courses you play, NO THANKS for me!
One last note, I've lost my first two rounds from memory after ending the round after the 18th hole. I figure it's because I was missing scores on previous holes. If you don't have a score for each hole and end the round it seems to NOT save it. I could not find anything in the manual or Garmin's website about this. MAKE sure a score is enterred for all holes before quitting a round! :)

GOOD GOLF GPS
Pros: speed, accuracy, easy to view, lots of options.
Works well. Very easy to set up (there is none). Updates are easily done. Unit is quite accurate. I cant say its dead accurate but its within a yard or two at worst. Startup is quick, seconds it seems like. Course selection is easy. It is also easy to view in the sunlight. There are lots of options for scoring. Stableford, stroke, skins, handicap and more. Stroke scoring can be simple or detailed and scores can be viewed on your computer at the end of the round and are stored until deleted. Battery should easily last at least as long as rated.

GOOD BUT COULD BE BETTER
Pros: nice compact size, Cons: see aboce
Basically a good GPS but still not ready for prime time. User navigation is finicky, an example advancing to the next hole on the scorecard and returning to view the hole goes back to the previous hole (one of a number of annoyances). Hole handicaps for my home course are completely in accurate. After a couple weeks the screen has more scratches than my 5 yr old iPod touch. Forgetting to end your round drains your battery.
