MEMORY CARD

this card style is required if you are using a gps296 aviation style gps. you can download about 60% of the USA from city nav. but unfortunately this is the most memory you can get in this format. it's the best you can do with a discontinued product from garmin. typically all new electronics are obsolete in about two years, but i like the gps296 overall for performance in aviation and auto.

Because the 276c 'accepts' only GARMIN datacards it's a must to install the possible max size.

REAL ADD-VALUE

Rediculously expensive, but you need it. For the Garmin 276c which is now off the market, the larger memory is a real blessing. Since its introduction, the 276c which was ahead of its time has been fed larger and larger info files as the contents ot various mapping services (like Tracks 4 Africa) have grown and become more versatile, even though T4A has tried valiently to keep its bulk down. Currently some overfat programmes (like Garmap Africa) are so bloated that they cannot all fit into even the 512 mmemory. The original little memory (128kb is just about useless.) This memory is available from other sources but is considerably moer expensive, and it would allmost be worth just buying a more moden unit - IF Garmin had put a decent replacement for the 276C GPS unit on the market... which they have not (yet) March 2011.

I HATE GARMIN MARKETING

This is essential tool for using the Garmin 276C GPS system, so if you have a 278, you don't really have an option. That's the problem. I used it for a long motorcycle trip. There was sufficient capacity for my needs, but I was suprised I could only purchase 512MB. In this day where multiple GBs are easily and cheaply available for data cards, this card is way underpowered for the price. But, since this is the only card that fits the 278 and since the programming feature available with the upgraded maps does not work without the card, one really doesn't have an option.

DOESN'T DOWNLOAD POI'S TO GPSMAP 478

I gave this item a 3 only because the is no - Mis-informed by Garmin rating. Unfortunately, this memory stick cannot be used to download POI's to the GPSMAP 478. Garmin support first said it should. GPSCITY replaced the card Garmin suggested was defective. It wasn't. GPSCITY allowed me to return the second card after Garmin found their mistake.

TYPICAL GARMIN PROPRIETORY

Pros: looks nice. good price at gps city
Cons: not enough storage space.

It does the job, but it's sad that I can't buy a third party one to use on my GPS MAP 296. It says you can store all of canada topo on this size, but all I got fit on it was 3/4 of B.C.. If I could buy a regular Card, I can buy a larger size and fit all of north America!!

GARMIN GPSMAP276C DATACARD 512MB

Pros: the stick itself works very well
Cons: 512mb memory space is much too small, 2gb needed

For GPSMAP devices no other option to go with! Garmin already has learned to use SD cards for the new devices. So you are free to use the memory size you want to go with. For the older equipment like the GPSMAP276c first of all I have to search for best offers which I cant get in Europe as good as I have got through gpscity and second I can only get 512MB where only 1/3 of Europe will fit to. As I would like to stay with my multi-functional GPSMAP I wish that Garmin would come up with a 2GB chipsolution for the old equipments - if technically possible.

Cons: none

I imported two memory cards cheaper than I could buy one 512MB card in South Africa.(A saving of US$45-00 on total puchase!!!) Fantastic service. Received the first e-mail back from gpcity within an hour of my request to purchase. Fedex, your carrier was just as good.

GARMIN MEMORY CARD

Pros: lots of memory for the land and navigation charts
Cons: price.price.price

Fortunately for Garmin I supported their product and bought a 276C. Unfortunately for me I require this Garmin memory card that is significantly over priced and that Garmin do not realize that they are seriously gouging their customers on accessories.

GARMIN 512MB MEMORY CARD

Pros: here has the best price i could find anywhere

OK it sucks that you have to buy some special GARMIN memory card for $80+ when you can find SD 2gb cards for $8. But that is how it is and if you want to down load more maps to your GPS you have to do it.

I use this in my 296 GPS to load topo maps. It has worked great and does what I need it to do.

512 MEMORY CARD

I like the ability to have one card for my favorite marine charts and then insert a land card for those maps without having to reload each time I switch back and forth. I agree that the price for Garmin memory cards is high, particularily when Garmin has customers who have purchased their products over other manufacturers. It would seem to me that keeping those customers happy would certainly help referral sales. It can't be that expensive to produce memory cards. Are we thinking price inflating here?

PRODUCT WORKS FINE BUT PER MB WAY OVER PRICED!

Pros: works
Cons: rediculously high price!

Can you say PROPRIETARY? Garmin sure can and they will make sure that you can say it too when they charge you an arm and leg for half a gig of storage. They are also pretty good at pretending we are in a time warp for the price of solid state memory. At these prices, it looks like we are still living in 2004. Looks like they have protected their patent rights on this card too since they seem to not have allowed any licensing rights to any other memory card manufacturers to help drive prices down by spurring on competition. Way to go Garmin! Always thinking about the bottom line-your bottom line!

EXTENDED MEMORY

Pros: pure necessity
Cons: price

It's a pity that the card is so expensive and so small! Garmin should be ashamed to charge this amount of money for a product that should really be built in to the GPS. They also forces the usres to buy the largest avaliable memory by changing the maps into larger chunks. BTW it works as supposed though:-)

VERY EXPENSIVE MEMORY

Pros: very hard
Cons: expensive

BIG MEMORY CARD - COULD BE BIGGER

Pros: drop it in and you're all set!
Cons: could easily use a larger capacity.

Garmin continues to underequip its GPS units in the memory department. You can outdrive or outfly 128mb worth of maps in a few hours, necessitating an in-progress GPS update. Definitely not the best way to do business. 512 Mb should be the standard card, especially if you're buying a unit costing +$1K, with upgrades to 1, 2, and 4 Gb available.

LOAD ALL THE MAPS YOU NEED, AND THEN SOME

Pros: must have for units with limited memory
Cons: proprietary and limited units that can use this.

This is a must have addition to get all the maps a person might need. I loaded all I needed for City Navigator and still had room. If your unit can use this, get it. Shop the internet but you will not find it any cheaper than at GPSCity. This was exactly what my Garmin 276C needed.

YES, 276C COMPATIBLE

Hi Clinnet, yes, the 512MB card is suitable for the 276C according to the Garmin product page here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=693#productTab

Any Garmin map should display OK - I've used these cards with 3rd party maps OK too.

The card can only ever rate a bad score as it's proprietary and vastly overpriced - even with the much reduced price at present.

It is a pity that a great GPS unit such as the 276 needs proprietary memory cards (with limited capacity) such as this whereas the "lessor" gps units use generic cards such as a SD etc.
