256 MB DATACARD & THE STREET PILOT III

Cons: won't work in street pilot iii originally it did

Several years ago when I purchased my Garmin Street Pilot III, I also got a 256 MB data card to go with it and it has worked great. Recently I decided to buy another card since Garmin no longer supports MapSource for the SP III nor the SP III itself. Now the new 256 MB data card won't work in the SP III. I suppose Garmin went and reformatted the cards so you have to operate on low mememory and constant map downloads, forcing you to buy one of their newer GPS. The SP III is by far in my opinion one of the better GPS and nothing they have come out with yet is any better, It's one drawback is lack of memory for maps. One can program the SP III on your computer using the Data Cards, whereas you can not do that on newer GPS. I also own a Nuvi GPS, so I know. The data card itself is probably just fine, but the application of it for a SP III has been destroyed by Garmin. You are limited now to the 128 MB Card.

GARMIN 256MB MEMORY CARD

This card works GREAT with the Garmin Street Pilot III Deluxe. Never any problems!

Too bad that this darn thing costs so much money. At today's prices, it should cost about $5 to $10.

Not that Garming quit selling the mapping software for the StreetPilot, one had better hold on to those CD's and load up this card. 2009 Mapsource (non NT) IS the last version they will make.

I got this instead of the 128MB in case more storage space was needed. I am using it with my GPSMAP 296. It does the job and there is still a lot of space left for other data, if needed.

With my Garmin 276C unit I can get all of RT 95 map sectors from Maine to SW Florida on this card. But remember it will not work in all Garmin units. Most only will take the 128 mb card.
