... From Asking Where Am I?

The first thing I thought about when I tried to look at a map mounted on my tank bag was: It takes too long and my eyes are off the road. Hence, I needed something better? What? A GPS mounted on the handlebars where I could look quickly and keep my eyes on the road. Next, the hunt began. When I took this challenge on, I realized that the whole process is made up as you go along. There is no standard mount system for motorcycles and GPS. You make it work. When I bought my Garmin C330, I also looked for a mounting system. Some were foolish, some were too technical, but RAM mounts seemed to be the best. Next thing I knew, my partner and I were riding eastbound through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I almost forgot, it was November. At 5000 feet, the rain, snow, and sleet, all came down. With luck, my GPS found us a little bar/cafe nearby, we suited up in the GoreTex rain suits, and put some plastic over the GPS and all-important XM radio. Which, by the way, was also mounted on a RAM mount. Soon, I found that little Garmin would keep us from running out of gas as we were able to locate nearest, and more importantly, farthest gas stations. It also let us know how far till we could eat lunch. Where was that restaurant? All in all, without the Garmin RAM mount, I could have rear-ended a stopped car or missed a turn. It's VERY important to not let yourself be distracted when riding, but it also important know when that confusing freeway interchange is coming up. Don't get lost, don't ask for directions, don't be late. Use you Garmin GPS and mount it before it falls off your freakin' velcro mount you so cheaply added to your bike fairing!
