DOES IT REALLY SAVE BATTERY POWER? READ ON...

Pros: small, simple use, functional
Cons: doesn't save battery power as advertised

I bought this because I thought that it would essentially replace the internal GPS in my iphone/ipad, which as we all know suck the battery, but it doesn't. Maybe it's different for a wifi-only iphone/ipad but on my 3G ipad or iphone, I still have to turn on Location Services in order for them to use the XGPS signal. So, my iphone still sucks battery power.

GREAT UNIT!

Pros: fast lockup time
Cons: battery life could be better.

Glad I found this as I was suffering from buyers remorse over a WiFi iPad 3. No GPS meant it was useless for maps on the go - the large screen is so much nicer than my iPhone 4s. With data tethering and the XGPS150A, I have full mobile access without a second data plan. Not the most elegant solution, but it works. The XGPS150A gives me a solid, accurate GPS location, and the rubber dashboard holder is a great bonus!

GREAT EXTERNAL GPS

I use this to feed my iPad2. I have the WiFi model and thus it has a built-in GPS, I was hoping the dedicated external unit would provide better accuracy but it doesn't seem much better. The big advantage is being able to locate it with a clear view of the sky when the iPad is mounted in the cab.

WORKS WELL WITH IPAD 2

Pros: small, sensitive, accurate, good value
Cons: small size makes it easy to misplace

I picked this up as a possible GPS alternative to a high end GPS unit (e.g. Trimble) to use with my wi-fi iPad 2 for survey work. The unit worked seamlessly with the iPad, with only a miniscule lag in real time tracking operation. It picks up satellites fast, and seems to be as accurate as the hand-hand GPS units I've used, most of which cost several times as much. Although it might take a while, it will also pick up a good signal indoors, which many of the hand-held units have trouble with. At this point, I have no problems recommending it.

WORKS AS ADVERTISED AND EXPECTED

Pros: fast fix, reliable performance
Cons: can't plug in charger while in dash mat

I bought the receiver to use with a Viliv Windows XP UMPC running Garmin Mobile PC on the road and Mountainscope for aviation. No trouble pairing the devices, and I was very impressed with how fast the Dual was up and running with a solid fix it was virtually immediate and much, much faster than with my previous unit (Holux), even when started up in Dallas when it was last used in Saskatchewan. Once locked on it never faltered. The dash mat works very well, but one very minor complaint when in the dash mat/holder, you can't have the unit plugged in with the USB charger there is no opening in the mat to allow this. Could be an issue on a long drive or flight, but could be fixed by cutting a hole in the rubber fairly easily. Still, seems like it would also be easy to make it this way in the first place. Overall very impressed and pleased with the unit.
