 Garmin's Oregon series is well liked for many reasons, some of which are the 3" touchscreen, paperless geocaching and long battery life. The newest additions to this line are the Oregon 450 and Oregon 450T, replacements for the Oregon 300 and 400T respectively. The "T" indicates preloaded topographic coverage of the continental US.
While the casing and multitude of functions have remained the same, one key change has been the 3-axis compass. Along with a clearer, sunlight-readable screen and a high speed USB connection for quicker map transfers.

Garmin Connect welcomes new units to their online community.

 Garmin launched their online community, Garmin Connect, to interface primarily with their fitness lineup. They have now added their outdoor product line, to the compatibility list for use with Garmin Connect. With the new update, uploads are now accepted from handhelds like; the Oregons, Foretrex 301 and 401, Colorado or the motorcycle units Zumo 550 and 660.
Garmin is becoming known as the go-to site for all; activity logging and training needs. Some of the improvements handheld users will notice are:
- Easy Uploads for new generation Garmin devices
- Manual uploads for .gpx files

Garmin Custom Maps announced.

 Garmin, the leader in GPS, has just announced the addition of a custom maps feature. This will be available for the Garmin Oregon, Dakota and Colorado GPS units. A feature requested by thousands of customers is to be able to add their own special mapping.
Garmin made this feature possible via Google Earth. Google Earth is a tool used to geo-reference the custom map and to then send it to your GPS. Here is what you need to get started: - Google Earth - To calibrate the map and save it as a *.KMZ file.

Garmin Connect – the next generation of MotionBased -- is now open to all Garmin fitness devices. Garmin Connect offers a better experience with a cleaner user interface and improved site performance that you’ll enjoy when analyzing your workout data on new and improved features.
