Buzz Article: Bring a shovel and plant a tree with the Kingston Area Geocachers

Event: Cache In, Tree In - Kingston 2012
Date: May 5th, 2012 - 9am-12pm
Location: Kingston, Ontario, Canada
Description: Geocachers, local volunteers and the general public are invited plant trees.

What: Potted tree stock in and along the northern area of the property bordering 5 and 10 year old plantations.

Where: Lemoine Point Conservation Area; North Parking Lot. When you arrive, look for either a CITO logo or look for cachers you know :o)

When: Saturday May 5th. Planting starts at 9am and runs till 12pm. Please come earlier to be present for instructions as well as signing in to the event and getting acquainted with other cachers. Photos will be taken throughout but we would like to get a group shot afterwards.

What to Bring: Please dress for the weather (Cachers Always Do!)
Own Gloves, Shovels and Boots. It is best to have gear that fits and you're comfortable with.
Note: Depending on the weather, it may be hot. Planting does require some effort and when planting, you might become thirsty. Please bring your own water bottle (filled) to the event. After planting there will be refreshments provided.

Why: Among the many reasons for tree planting, our aim is to give back to the area in a way that creates food and habitat for wildlife through reforestation. Our combined efforts will provide the area with new growth that will directly benefit the health of ecosystem. To keep with the CITO requirements, cachers are advised to collect any trash they can during the event at the planting locations.

Our Goal: As a group of geocachers, our aim is to plant our own area together and have a fun experience. This is a great opportunity to teach young ones how to plant trees and the importance it has in our local ecosystem. Not to mention, have you ever wondered what the effects a vehicle does to the environment over the course of one entire year while enjoying this "hobby"? The more trees we plant, the more we can offset carbon emissions.

Last but not least, after planting there will be refreshments available for all those who supported and participated. This is provided by the Friends of Lemoine Point. Look forward to seeing everyone and their shovels bright and early, rain or shine.
