TomTom, the personal navigation device manufacturer, announced the addition of local search on their GPS devices. Local search uses the device's current location to provide suggestions on nearby businesses.
The managing director of TomTom Places, Lucien Groenhuijzen, released a statement, saying, "Local search is key to providing relevant information about places for people so that they can navigate freely to wherever they want to go. We give people more freedom to discover and enjoy new places along the way, using platforms which encourage a seamless navigation journey from the home via the internet, to in-car devices and on foot using their smartphone."
Since TomTom is headquartered in Amsterdam, local search will be released first in Europe. The initial release plans include coverage in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Portugal. |
