Users can now listen to the voice of Homer Simpson on their iPhone. Yesterday, TomTom, a market leader of Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs), unveiled a GPS app featuring the voice of the beloved television character. When using an iPhone's GPS for driving or walking instructions, users will hear Homer's popular catchphrases and sounds made famous by the long-running television show, The Simpsons.
TomTom is promoting Homer Simpson as the first celebrity to voice a GPS via an in-app purchase. Some people see this move by TomTom as a way to compete with the rapidly growing smartphone market. Alain Pakiry, TomTom's senior vice president of marketing, explained the company's decision to use Homer's voice, saying, "Homer's skills will help keep drivers and fans entertained in a lighthearted and familiar way. It's exciting to have him onboard!"
Currently, Homer Simpson's voice can be heard via TomTom's app in fourteen countries including Canada and the United States. The GPS app costs $5.99USD to download. However, before users can buy Homer's app, they need to install the 1.7 version of the TomTom App for $49.99USD. |
