Groundspeak, the worlds largest geocaching supplier, has just released their newest iPhone App, v4. This new design raises the bar with an abundance of additional features.
Geocaching is an electronic treasure-hunting game, played with a GPS receiver, coordinates and hints. Cachers log on to www.geocaching.com to set up their personal account, then they will choose one of two options. To find a cache, users will select an area, then pick as many caches as you want, load the coordinates into the GPS. Alternately a cache can be deposited and the coordinates recorded on the GPS, to be uploaded to www.geocaching.com when back at a computer.
Version 4.0 of the Groundspeak Geocaching App has added many new features, more than any other upgrade to date. Some of which include; the ability to listen to the iPod App while caching, geotagging photos and submitting them with geocache logs, Google Maps integration and the option to submit logs for trackable items like geocoins and travel bugs.
To avoid confusion, the new v.4 App is not specifically for the new iPhone OS 4/iPhone 4G. Quite the opposite actually, since the Geocaching version 4.0 is not 4G compatible at this time. Be sure to look out for the revisions to this App in the near future.
